well iv known about this since well for a few years now but iv never been able 2 get the day... i finally got down the day... ill just copy/paste what it is n such

This year it is on Wednesday, April 18.

"The Day of Silence is an annual event held to commemorate and protest anti-LGBT bullying, harassment and discrimination in schools. Students and teachers nationwide will observe the day in silence to echo the silence that LGBT and ally students face everyday. In it's 11th year, the Day of Silence is one of the largest student-led actions in the country."

Oh firetrucking horseradish. You beat me to it. lol

Well i'm organising a fair sized event this year. Our activities, although in the brainstorming stages will include; students in every home room secretly monitoring and tallying discriminatory remarks (over the period of a month), 6-hour vow of silence (had to shorten it from 9, i will take the full nine tho), news and press releases and finally a workshop on combatting the popular phrase "that's so gay".

Thats all i got so far. I'm waiting til the "Get Stuff" section of their site opens until i plan anything else. One step at a time.:icon_wink

I think one of the GLBT groups at my college is doing something for that. I'll definitely be participating.

Our school always does it, and everyone who chooses to participate wears a card that day explaining why they're being silent and also exempting them from class participation. I did it last year (even though my friends WHOM I WAS OUT TO didn't...sorry, a bit bitter) and plan to do it again.

Hey, in high school, I don't think I would have been caught dead participating.

I DID IT! I went 8 hours and 45 minutes without speaking a word. (I would have made the 9 but my mom called me and I couldn't ignore it.)

I started at 7:30 (had to delay that because I had to order donuts)
I ended at 4:30 (sister called and she is with my mom so yeah....)

I informed a lot of people about it. (I had a FAQ thing from the website with me plus I added a few questions and answers of my own. (Like if anyone else in my school was doing it... 2 others tried but failed... and what I was doing it for... I was doing it for anti violence period... not just against gay/les/bi/trans/allies... I also explaned what Allies was because people thought only lgbt people could do it)

I got a lot of work done today lol.

Wow, I am really pissed at my school right now. Every year we have done the day of silence and it's been this big thing and really raises awareness. BUT this year NO ONE mentioned it. It didn't even get a little announcement at assembly. That really ticks me off...
