Unique comfort food

Discussion in 'Chit Chat' started by anthonythegamer, Oct 6, 2013.

  1. I'm sure everybody has this one dish that you would drop everything and eat it. What's yours?

Mine are soup dumplings. For those of you who don't know, they are steamed dumplings with piping hot soup inside of the dumpling. Eating it is like an art LOL

  2. Mozzarella cheese sticks. Indescribably good.

I got a pretty weird sounding yet good and actually fairly creative one; get some potatoes, peel them, slice them, put garlic salt/powder (add salt per your choice if you have powder), pepper, enjoy. Their great; trust me.

Either Tater Tots or Bibimbap.....mmmm sooo yummy

  7. crispy bird's nest.
I get it at the local thai food place. I think it's like deep fried egg noodles that are crunchy and covered in veggies and a spicy sweet sauce.

It's comfort food for me, despite the fact that if I order it extra spicy it would melt my face off

Chicken schnitzel, deep fried to golden perfection. Eaten right after cooking, that crispy exterior encasing the tender chicken inside....heaven!

It's hardly unique, but I'm a sucker for Mac and Cheese. I always go for it when I'm upset, sometimes just out of cravings. Usually if I request it suddenly my grandparents figure I'm not in a great mood. It always manages to cheer me up.

Hummus and eggplant (aubergine). Those two foods are my friends in sadness.

Real, home made ragu (or bolognese? Not sure how people call it) pasta, the one you actually eat in Italy, not the stuff they sell here. Will always be my weak spot.

Chicken nuggets or chicken tenders with a little bit of ranch on the side. When I was little, I used to always eat chicken nuggets, and when I got older, chicken tenders. Even at restaurants its all I order. They remind me of better time when I'm sad.

All my comfort foods are "special" Indian dishes.

congee (rice porridge) with tomato pickle
puttu (steamed rice "cylinders" with coconut) and banana
    chappathi with dal (lentil) curry
masala dosa (rice/lentil "burritos" stuffed with potatoes/vegetables)

My dad used to make what he called stuffed dogs, when I was a kid. They're hot dogs split length-wise, covered in cheese onions and tomato paste then baked. Like Hrantou said, it reminds me of better days.

    oh, and root beer floats

A lentil soup recipe I found in a cook book and a cold coca cola. <-- The only thing is, it takes for-fucking-ever to make, but I am glad it exists because with this food combination I have made myself from fuck this world to yay, food and internet. And also ice cream of any kind.

There is this dish I made a couple of times which is basically sweet potato slices with lime, cream and peanut butter. So nice.

Raw herring with raw onions on bread with butter.

  18. Oh man, when I heard Crispy Bird's Nest, I almost passed out. But yeah, I've actually tried something like that, except it has beef in it. I'm sure they have sauces on the side to make it spicy if you want

OMG, my mom makes me congee all the time! It's good, but it's pretty easy to get sick of if you ask me.

My grandma made the best tomato dumplings with canned biscuit dough. I think of her when I make them.

Really, really, really fresh homemade bread. Or biscuits.

Not to be conceited, but as a food-obsessed person I personally prefer (with prolific propensity) my own food and recipes to those of others. But food in general gives me comfort. The act of cooking (and eating) can brighten the worst of days.

Pasta, however cliché, is another comfort food of mine. When I'm feeling down I like to leave no carbs unturned.

But the very scent of vanilla sugar (a staple in my kitchen) can comfort me as well. Sometimes just taking a big whiff of it can help me more than eating anything else.
