Being a part of the furry fandom for a long time, and an eccentric sort all my life, it all seems pretty normal to me; a way to identify with other animals, and be imaginative in ways that might be creative, spiritual, comical and even sexual.

Even as gays face a certain degree of stigma, so does the furry fandom...though it's hard to really compare the two, as the second is more of a hobby/fandom/identification.

So, would you date a furry if you got along, or would you feel funny about it?

It depends, I guess, on how intense the person felt about it all. As with all things that I can't really relate to, like sports, or drinking heavily, or music, or visual art... if they're heavily into it, it'll be hard for me to engage with them. Depending on how centric it is to that person, it may be hard for me to find some sort of consistent common ground. I've tried hanging out with these guys who were extremely sports-centric before, and it went wonderfully awkward.

I voted "no way!", but I'm not hostile to it. It's just that any form of "irregular" sexual activity doesn't appeal to me. I wouldn't, but I would date a furry over a drinker.

Uhm, not all furries are into that kind of thing. For many, it's just about identifying with other animals to a larger extent than most, sort of, I believe? Let's face it — animals are pretty cool.

I don't see any reason not to. They're less obnoxious than fashion/sports fanboys. Plus, bronies (like me) are very similar to furries, so I'd probably get along well with members of the furry fandom.

Furries are a whole world and yiff/the sexuality is a small part of the world. The furrie lifestyle involves so many different levels but it isn't an irreglar sexual activity at all IMO

    Huh, odd.

We need to hire a new PR firm!

Though some of the idiotic stereotypes like on that CSI episode didn't exactly help.

But as somebody once said, it makes for better ratings than showing two people in wolf t-shirts debating if The Lion King was a better movie than Fox and the Hound. =p

Heading to Midwest Furfest with my partner and I am running a panel again this year

Last year I did "What does it mean to be furry" group discussion

This year is "Furry fandom corrupted?" Does sexuality belong in the furry fandom

    Can't wait!

Nope. I also have a hard time believing that the sexual/porn aspect is a small portion of it, considering the copious amounts of porn/role players/erotica. There's countless websites dedicated to it.

I don't know what a 'furry' is. Now do I look on Google to find popular opinions on the matter, or are you going to be nice to give me a tidy link to a place that explains the real deal?

Or should I just watch more CSI?

I think the assumption with your poll is that everyone knows what a furry is. I don't know should be an option.

Huh, hadn't thought of that. I suppose given the interwebs as they are and the overall younger age-group here, most would have some kind of notion. But if I post another such poll/discussion, I'll include the option. I'm on the older side of things, for being a furry, though I do credit it for helping keep me young.

I'm a very open guy, but there are some hobbys that will just down right send me the other way :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Seeing as I've been with a furry before, you can pretty much guess that my answer is "Why not?" As long as I love them, and they don't try to make me change to please them, I see no problem with it.

For my ex, it was mostly a romantic/physical desire kind of thing, more than a sexual desire, although the sexual desire was still there. Granted, my ex was into some pretty crazy things, but I'll refrain from saying that.

It depends how extreme they are? Do they like to dress up as animals? Is it a fetish? If yes to either, then no, but some furries just like to draw anthropomorphic animals and if it was limited to something as benign as that I wouldn't have any problems with it.

The non-extreme furries are ok, but the hardcore ones that carry sexual overtones in their furriness reflect badly on us since many of these people are part of the LGBTQ communities as well.

Also I am a vegan, and am very passionate about animal rights, and this subculture can breed zoophilia (perhaps unintentionally) so I would be skeptical about dating a furry but I wouldn't be totally unreceptive to the idea if we had one thing in common: being vegans as I won't date anyone that eats meat.

Currently dating a furry. His fursona is a little grey cat, it's pretty cute honestly. The furry thing isn't a kink thing for him, like he's not into yiffing or whatever, so it doesn't make the relationship awkward.

Yes and they represent a section of the lifestyle, not all of it. I would be fine saying that the erotica is a even a decent portion of it but the fact is we furres are allbranded a sexual deviant rather than a lifestyle. No, the sexual sector of the furry lifestyle is not indicative of who were are.

I wouldn't see any reason for you to go but if you go to a furfest you'll see a large portion of the fandom is not geared towards sexuality

As far as seeing copious amounts of websites dedicated to it, there are plenty of websites where bronies post clop pics. Are bronies mostly cloppers? What about ****** and so-called steam houses? Are gay people mostly unfaithful and in it just for copious sexual interactions?

And acually I'll go one step further. Does a yiffer make them in the furry fandom just for the erotica? Isn't it possible that a person who yiffs in their private time can have more depth to the furry lifestyle than just erotica?

I don't have a problem with the ones that draw pictures, but to me it's kinda laughable to include them among the currents within that group that are into zoophilia. There's a difference between a fixation with drawing with human characteristics and the fetish.

If the furries want to be taken seriously then they should distance themselves from that group. Outside of furry forums I've had furries assume that I'm a Zoophile just because I'm a vegan, which makes no sense. As a vegan and animal defender, it's pretty much my job to oppose this behavior. At the time the guy asked me if I was a furry I had never even heard of furries before so it really left a bad impression on me.

Thanks for proving my point about them reflecting badly on us, Foxface. When furries say they're gay, some really insular people might tar all of us with that brush. I'm not blaming the entire furry community for this, of course, but that's all the more why people like you should condemn the furries that have the fetish for animals. Not only would it be good for you but it would be helpful for us.

But if you do look at the studies done about this, the numbers are kinda appalling. Nearly 1 in 5 reported attractions to animals and that's just the ones who weren't lying. I'd be curious to see the actual percentage of furries who were sexually interested in animals, but I'd wager it's higher than that.

Finally, that' a false equivalency about bronies; bronies don't typically dress up as characters from MLP. The portion of them that do fantasize about MLP would be smaller than furries and the connection zoophilia. I mean no offense when I say that, and I apologize if it offends you.
