Put something relating to the antimiscegenation laws that used to ban interracial marriage and how the current gay marriage bans are pointing to the same things.
You could make a sign similar to the red equal sign that took over Facebook. It's simple to make and something that most people are familiar with, so it gets the equality message across easily. Or you could make some variation of it. I've seen some of those too
