A lot of people on EC are from Canada.

    Is this true?

Well I'm not Canadian, but I'm sure not all Canadians don't lock their doors. Just like how not all Americans in small towns/rural areas don't keep their doors locked.

I'm not Canadian, but if I was, I wouldn't answer you, because I'd be afraid that you were looking for excuses to go rob Canadians. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I'm a door-locking Canadian, there are several like us...I can assure you that 100% of the Canadians on this site will, most probably, at some point in time lock and unlock their doors.

I’m not Canadian, like anyone else who’s posted so far.
However, I have spent a lot of time in Montreal and in the smaller town next to it - Mont Tremblant. I have friends in both. My friends in Montreal lock their doors, but do go insane if they realize they haven’t. In Mont Tremblant, it’s rare for my friends to lock the door. In other words, only lock it when leaving for a considerable amount of time.

Haha. I do have intentions to travel Canada soon, but assure you that I won't be checking any doors.

So we have one locked Canadian door so far.

I don't think that no one locks their doors in Canada, but I would imagine that I would find a higher number of unlocked doors in Canada than here in the US.

Well, I'm not from canada, and that sounds like an overgeneralisation. And I do lock my door. But I've often considered whether there is a point to this. What are the chances that a) someone walks up to my door in particular and tries it and b) wouldn't come equipped to break in if they were intended to steal from me.

This makes me think of a quote from Jingo by Terry Pratchett - "No-one ever ever used to lock their doors down our street." "That's right, Nobby!" "Yeah, that's because the bastards used to even steal the locks."

My friend's from Canada. She says, quote, 'Those stereotypes are fucking garbage, it's bullshit'.

Not in a mean way, she just doesn't like the Canadian stereotypes

In this case, the stereotype that crime is so low in Canada that there's no need to lock doors? Gosh what a negative stereotype.

Not that I'm surprised it's false.

My Québécois girlfriend and her family have told me some pretty interesting stories about the culture and crime in Montreal, and while it's generally safer there than in the US, I wouldn't say they're not all locking up their igloos *cough* ..doors.

The biggest crime my girlfriend's dad experienced is when he left his car unlocked, and someone went through his glove compartment, didn't take anything, then locked the door behind themselves! He wasn't even joking!

I'm from Canada, and well, I didn't think it was weird but yeah, small communities do a lot actually. Sure there are some parts of town were people do and others were they don't. But yeah, sometimes you just forget and its no big deal I guess..? It all depends but I know people around my community usually don't lock their doors that often..? It all depends on your community I guess.
And yeah, I usually just joke around with the igloo stereo types aha.
