    Seriously, why?

Its one of the most natural acts around that is required for the continuance of life that most species do, so why is it that one of the most common reactions to this natural act is to laugh?

It seems illogical to me, what do people expect, wild animals to somehow behave by our social rules?

    They do?
I don't know. Perhaps to cover the feeling of embarrassment?

Hit it right on the head. According to Bergson, laughter is explained by being in awkward situations and not knowing how to respond. The fact that these people see animals mate is ( although it shouldn’t) awkward for them (maybe brings up the subject of procreation, which they aren’t very comfortable with) and thus they laugh.

Yeah, and I guess their embarrassment can be explained by looking at how rather messed up the situation is regarding human sexuality, and how non sexual human nudity is oddly seen as embarrassing when the truth is its our natural form and really non sexual nudity shouldn't be perceived any differently to wearing clothes.

It's because most people associate it with some form of shame or another, something which animals do not have. It's been woven into our society that clothes are normal and no clothes are abnormal.

Although I must say, I've never really seen anyone laugh at two animals mating before. Aside from a Youtube video maybe.

Yep I've only seen it in videos, but I don't go around looking at animals mate either, nor do I visit zoos as I dont really care to see animals in captivity.

I’ve seen animals mate in nature. We just stumbled upon two gazelles getting it on. Although we took pictures, no one laughed.

People have a strong tendency to laugh in awkward situations and out of embarrassment. I'd go with that.

I will also laugh if I walk in on my human friends mating?

I laugh. And it's not because I'm offended. It's because you look at two dogs humping in the middle of a busy street (one with traffic lights) and they're so relaxed and free of guilt that it's just funny, not to mention the irritation to the motorists who have to drive around them. I only wish I had taken a few photos when I've seen that. It's just like a dog squatting and arching to take a crap on someone's perfectly landscaped lawn, and being clueless to the fact that it could be a rich neighborhood and not the projects. The dog needs to take a shit, and that's what matters to the dog.

I think people laugh if it's in the city. I don't think they'd laugh if it was at the zoo or on a safari. At the zoo or on a safari, you would just study it and maybe take photos.

I once saw an elephant's cock on tv. It was horrifying.

Oh no. I heard that some pigs have one that's like a corkscrew. I don't know if that's true or not.

At any rate, I think we laugh because they're so uninhibited and because they look at you straight in the eye while carrying on.

Because they don't know any other way to react. Besides the fact that they just casually do it. They don't care. I wish we could live without caring what people think all the time.

I just think it looks funny. It isn't awkward to me or anything, though. Just genuinely funny to look at. That said, I've seen some gay porn where the positions in which the men were having sex in look absolutely hilarious as well, so it's not limited to just animals with me. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Oh my God, yes. So many awkward and unrealistic positions.
Oh, you want me to squat like a gargoyle whilst I get it up the behind from a guy who looks like he’s a squirrel humping everything he sees? Ok, sign me!

Because reproduction isn't seen as a natural process by humans. We view it as something more than it is.
