GSD (gender and sexually diverse) is pretty neat, but the big problem about it is that it is already a thing. People often criticise the word "homophobic" because it means fear rather than hatred, but it'd be impossible to change it now because it's already a thing. It'd be like going back and changing the word for gay because it used to mean happy and that can be confusing. I recognise that the term is not fully inclusive of those we want to help, but the term is probably going to stick.

It does sound like a sandwich: lettuce - gruyere - bacon - tomato, perhaps.

I think it works fine if writing, but it's cumbersome when speaking.

As for the individual words, I like both lesbian and bisexual, because they are both scientific and everyday. I'm not a fan of the word gay, because I'd like to see a more practical word rather than one which has a festive or flamboyant connotation to many, and actually doesn't apply to many, if not most, homosexual men. Queer means odd, in its etymology, so that's also a no go.

I think GLAAD should hire an ad or PR agency to come up with a new word for the G part.

I like GSM (gender and sexual minorities), because it's by its nature inclusive of everything under the LGBT+ umbrella, and because allies can't try to shove their way into it like they do with LGBTQQIA. (The A stands for asexual, straight folks. You don't get to be in our club; you already have your own club, and the membership benefits are WAY better than ours.).

I tend to use that one as short form for the whole community if I'm talking to other queer people. I'm sometimes hesitant to use it around straight people because I don't know if they'll know that I consider it "reclaimed" and don't mean it in a derogatory way.

The acronym "LGBT" doesn't bother me as much as the whole alphabet (and sometimes even numbers!) that often comes with it.

I'm fine with it. Mostly cause like hell I'm gonna spell out LGBTQPADHJEMZXVR5I@K?F all the time and while better, more inclusive terms exist explaining what they mean to everybody isn't worth the headache. I feel like, if you're voicing support for the LGBT community then people can fairly assume we love every other color in our rainbow of minority just the same. Speaking out for everybody is our job, doesn't matter as much whether an abbreviation does or not.

That's me...To be honest, its hard to remember all the terms that come up in the community. I couldn't list half of them. I just say "gay" most of the time when referring to people unless I know otherwise.

I have taken to using GSM, for "gender and sexual minorities." In the event that we are not minorities, however slight the chance, GSD for "diverse" would make a bit more sense.

Not to mention having different words for homo guys and homo girls is sort of silly. :S

I think queer is the best, at least around other queer people.

Why is the order LGBT anyway? It's not alphabetic. Is it social acceptance? Prevalence? If I could choose the order I'd say GBLT because then you could just say giblet, and I need an excuse to say giblet more often.

    I second this.

I'm tired of asexual erasure, and allies thinking they deserve their own entitlement to being a part of the LGBT+ acronym, when straight folks virtually dominate every single aspect of life. Forbid they aren't included within everything. No, you don't get a cookie for calling yourself an ally and trying to assimilate yourself into the 'queer' community.

So, I'm all for GSM/GSD really. Anyway, LGBT reminds me of a BLT sandwich and it makes me hungry.

I'm sort of cool with "sexual minority" because it's about being a minority and it's based on sexual preference, so it's both accurate and even sounds demographic and scientific. Now, if we could only get a word for the guys in the pool ... Dude digger? No. That doesn't work. It sounds like grave digger and gold digger.

I've always used GLBT, because that's the population rank ordering that we know of, unless there are more bisexuals hiding in the woodwork ... until graduation. Love that "until graduation" qualification.

I'm cool with GSM/GSD, but If we are going to keep the LGBT, at least remember to put the little plus sign on the end (LGBT+ (thank you Owen and Oddish for doing so!)) to stay inclusive of those who are, say, "asexual" or another one of the minorities within the overarching LGBT+ minority.
