I know, I know it's really early. But I hate shopping during the holiday rush I thought if maybe we all collaborated on holiday gift ideas then it may be easier. The following people/categories can be: Mom: Dad: Sister: Brother: Pets: Grandparents/other family: Male friends: Female friends: Just post some ideas whenever you have the chance.
Here are some of the ideas I have for other people: Mom: Soap, candles, Starbucks/coffee giftcard Dad: Homemade treats (cookies, cake, pies,etc) Sister/brother: Favorite band calender, giftcards, chocolate Grandparents/other family: Homemade card, warm blanket, service giftcard. Male friends: Video game store (EB games) giftcard, sports bag, hat & gloves Female friends: Soap, Starbucks/coffee giftcard Kinda suck at coming up with ideas so any ideas are much appreciated. o_o;
Mom: Nothing Dad: Nothing Sister: Nothing Brother: Nothing Pets: Nothing Grandparents/other family: Nothing Male friends: Nothing Female friends: Nothing Did I mention I don't celebrate christmas?
My family always has hard time coming up with stuff to give each other. The consensus we seem to be reaching is that we'll give each other experiences (shows, or even just dinner out) instead of things this year.
Woah, here I was thinking I had given her a lukewarm response. Do you ever write letters to your family and give those as gifts? Beginning last year I started writing them letters, each personalized and each one written so that they don't feel forgotten. It comes at an opportune time since it's the end of the year, and I don't regard the letters as gifts (even if they do), the capitalist corporations aren't making a dime off it, and they enjoy getting the letters. Outlining the year, I write about the highlights, the bad things, memories of things we did together, and writing the letters seems to cheer me up a bit too. Your family might appreciate something like that as a way of letting them know you're thinking about them..
Yep. It takes my mind off the disgusting consumerism. I'm looking forward to writing one for my grandma this year, because she's been sick, and I know that a letter would mean to her than a gift.
If any of your siblings/friends are pc gamers, I would suggest cash or a steam gift card. They can get 5+ games for the price of one at the store during the winter sale on steam.(it lasts 2weeks during Christmas.) Pets like dogs? You could get them a couple Bully sticks or a antler. Especially if they are bigger dogs. The rest depends highly on what they are into. I usually give gag gifts. Like candy tassles, eatable underwear >.>.
I examine to core of the person and think about what they would really love. Then I try to hit as close to that mark as possible. I have gotten my dad a Gerber multitool that he loved, a black powder muzzleloading rifle that he loved, I got him a bottle of Brandy (bought by my mom) which he loved. I have gotten my mom a foot massager/foot spa thing that she liked a lot, a silver locket necklace with a picture of our family in it that she had admired in the store, and a bottle of wine (through my dad) that is REALLY hard to find here in AZ. I have gotten my sister a pair of earrings she admired in the store, I think I got her a purse or a wallet that she liked at the store, and I think I got her a Build-a-Bear Workshop giftcard. The funniest thing about me is the second I buy the thing, I want to give it to them right away. I can't WAIT to give it to them. I love seeing them happy because I got a good gift that they really enjoy. It makes me happy.
Something useful. A nice wallet or bag, a scarf, a nice pen, and write letters to geographically distant relatives (not a card; letters are far more personal and make the recipient feel better). The idea of a magazine subscription is good, but you should always speak to the person whom you're subscribing; get them the magazine/paper they want.
