My job is in the communications industry, and I knew when I got into this field that there are no days they are closed, we run a 24 hour 365 day operation.
Having said that, Retail businesses have no business being open on a family holiday. At least not without giving their employees a choice if they want the day off. I know of a WalMart that will be open, and in addition to ALL the retail employees having to work, they are making all the Pharmacy employees work, even though the Pharmacy will be closed.

I think this is wrong, people can wait until Friday trample each other trying to get good deals. The employees should be able to spend time with their families. I personally will not do ANY Christmas shopping at any store that is open on Thanksgiving.

Here is the current list, according to Huffington Post, of stores that will be open.
    Old Navy
    Walmart
    KMart,
    Target
    Staples
    Sears
    Best Buy
    Toys R Us
    Michaels, Macys
    JC Pennys
    Kohls

Retail is brutal. My own company is pushing to be open 365 as well, and I've had to work Christmas eve and new years day last year.

My own opinion is that people put too much value on material things, and don't take enough time out to just relax. I personally never go out shopping on holidays, so it's hard for me to imagine enough people would to warrant keeping the store open on a holiday. Then again, people constantly surprise me.

I probably won't even get out of my pajamas on Thanksgiving Day, let alone go shopping.

There's the spirit. I plan to be in my footie jammies both Thursday and Friday...I can't see any good reason to go out battling those mad stampeding crowds!

Gosh no. And certainly not the Friday after, either.

Thanksgiving Day will mean hitting the gym in the morning, for their limited hours, a buffet-style brunch in the early afternoon, and napping with some computer surfing thrown in for the evening.

NO. I agree, it isn't right to shop when the employees have family of their own to spend time with.

I hate what "Black Friday" has become and stay the hell away. Plus there's usually sleep to catch up on and football to watch.

NO, I'll be keeping tradition and watch the Macy's parade, have turkey with friends, then football.

"Become"? As far I as can tell it's always been this. In the 1930's Thanksgiving fell on the last day of the month. Businesses cried out that this wouldn't leave enough time for Christmas shopping. This was stupid so obviously nobody... wait... FDR moved thanksgiving forward one week! This means that according to the president, Black Friday is more important than Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving is just the day to relax before you run around buying presents.

No, and I don't plan on ever doing it. Those people at work deserve to be with their families too, and the only voice the corporations will hear is $$$. So let's not give it to them on that day, helping to push back the front of amoral consumerism.

No, but I know some people who do.

It's more a matter of some people may not get paid til the day before, and don't want to shop after working all day, so they go the next day.
