I don't know. I thought it was a SoCal Valley Girl thing, but if you're in Quebec...that doesn't really hold up .
I honestly don't, but every other female being who is under twenty that I've ever met does. I don't know--must be a biological thing.
And plus I mostly hang around guys (okay, all guys except for one girl who DOES say it), so that might be it.
    I don't know...

I say like a lot. I'm trying to get out of the habit for, like, you know, like, to sound, like, more professional and like, intelligent.

    Like, ya dig?

I don't say it very often, buty I do tend to say "you know" constantly. I'm trying to stop.

When I'm nervous, especially during job interveiws, I say "definetally" A LOT.
"Like" is probably a habit, most likely a nervous thing. Like biting nails.

    I'm a guy and I say like a lot.
LOL, but I don't really know the reason. Maybe it's to sorta put on an act for other people... but idk why I/anyone does that...

Haha I say it all the time when I talk, but I tend to leave it out when I type......
And at the beging of like every sentence, I say "and it was like", but I say it so fast that you can't really hear it. It's kinda weird.....

same, I say it heaps. A teacher at my school hates people saying it more than "ummm..."

she made me fear to speak up in class. lol

When I was younger I tend to say "um" and "uh" frequently. Then, I started getting into the habit of using "like" as a substitute.

I sometimes catch myself say like whenever I'm typing or texting, but, whenever I speak with my friends, in front of the class, etc, I barely catch myself saying it.

It's SUCH an annoying habit that I and quite a few of my friends needs to get out of...

I say it A LOT. The families that I consider my family but we aren't related pointed it out at my bday party in march. I say like a lot, but not online. I don't know why :S

I don't say it all too much unless I am actually comparing things. ^^

"like" , "You know", "You know what I'm saying" and others are all fillers for a sentence because people simply do not know how to deal with either silence or pauses.

I think it has become a particle instead of a word. The mere phoneme has been ingrained into our heads, giving it a new meaning. When on a stream of conciousness, we use 'like' to differentiate ideas and to separate story-telling from dialogue.

She was like, "I can't believe this!"
It's like, a way of speaking.

It has merely become a particle. Especially when one is trying to talk quickly or can't think of an explanation.
