So my stepdad's father is staying with us for two months, and he just arrived from England. He asked if I had a charger for his laptop since he forgot his, and mine happens to be universal. So I picked the right head, plugged it in, and opened it just to make sure it was charging. 6 or 7 tabs of porn were the only thing open, and his desktop background was pornographic as well. Now, he told me he wanted to charge it because my stepdad is going to do some work on it for him. I panicked and closed his tabs and replaced his background (after making sure I wasn't closing anything important.) Was I right to do this? It occurred to me that maybe he did this as a joke, for my stepdad to find. But I couldn't bear the thought of the kind old guy being embarrassed if it was what it probably is, a perfectly normal habit that the 80-year-old man probably never discussed with his son. Have any of you ever done anything like this? Was this reasonable of me? Did I act in haste or was my judgement fair? I feel torn up about this.
No one should ever have that kind of private stuff made public against their will. I'd have done the same. Porn isn't a bad thing, but it's also something people don't like to discuss.
I honestly wish this was a movie, because somehow a moment would pass between us where he realized I covered for him and I would give him a nod or wink or something. But He probably won't even know. I'd say it's actually a good bet my stepdad has stumbled on his father's porn in the midst of working on his computer at some point in the past. I am at least a little comfortable knowing that if he stumbles on anything while working on it, it'll be much more discreet than a bunch of tabs and a background sitting wide open for all to see.
He only asked me to find a charger that worked for his laptop, he didn't ask me to cover up anything embarrassing I found inside...
