Default Most boring jobs

I was thinking about this today in physics.

The most boring job I think would be being in the Swiss army Since they're neutral, they'd have nothing to do

What do you think?

Anything which is sort of 'production line' - where all you get to do is the same repetitive thing for 8 straight hours every day.

How mind numbing would that be? (Assuming you have a mind in the first place.)

but you have to know that the swiss army consists mostly of part-time soldiers. most of our soldiers have a "normal" job. You can find more information here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swiss_army There's even more in ther German article, but...

Our army does not have to be neutral. Switzerland needs an army in order to BE neutral!!!

I was asked to work at the head office one day but I had things to do. I'm really glad I didn't work that day because I found out from one of my co-workers (he got asked after they phoned me) that he had to work in the quality control department putting stickers on one particular brand of whiskey bottles. It wasn't just a few cases, it was the province's entire supply of this particular brand which meant pallets and pallets, thousands of cases.

They once compiled a list (way back in the 70s) of the most boring jobs. Tribi nailed it - number one was "assembly line worker (pace set by machine)". "Assembly line worker (worker sets pace)" was a few slots lower.

I feel sorry for all those people on production lines. It's soooooooo boring looking. I don't know how they do it.

I think I could possibly be able to be a part of a production line... I mean, I don't necessarily mind mind-numbing work because that allows my thoughts to wander about to a degree. I can easily amuse myself lol

my mom is a data entry person...she hates it, but it pays like 25 bucks an hour, sooo...

to me, the most boring job would be the person who holds the stop/go sign for when theyre doing construction on the road...they just stand there all day, flipping a sign!!

For assembly lines, frequently workers will change what task they do part way through the shift. So for the first half you stick the screw in, and the second half you tighten it. With the higher cost of labour in developed countries, there is more reliance on automation so instead of being used as a human robot, a worker could be in charge of overseeing a larger area of automation, and tending to the abnormalities (rejected components, jams, etc), as well as dealing with QA stuff, loading components, moving completed parts, and other varieties of smaller tasks, which is a bit more stimulating.

I found grocery store cashier pretty damn boring. Along the same lines of assembly line worker.

Well, I know what the worst job is.

Towel boy for the Los Angeles Lakers (or any other hot-shot basketball team.) Those guys have SUCH HUGE EGOS, and I saw one time a towel-boy draped a towel over Kobe Bryant's legs for him, and Kobe didn't even acknowledge the guy.
I mean, it sucks. It's not exactly boring (I mean, at a basketball game? So not boring.) But still...EGOS.......sucks for that guy.
