Do you believe in soulmates? I don't. But I'm wondering if anyone else does, and what justification they have for doing so.

This guy sums up my opinions pretty well on the subject.

    And lets not forget Tim.

As for why, that will remain a secret. I don't really want to share that much about myself openly.

No, I'd have to believe in a soul for that...

I know, I'm wondering why you think he's jaded just because 'soultmates' is too sentimental

It's just the negativity from him about everything. He's so negative that even his positives are negative.

I don't think so. I believe in compatibility, chemistry, love, and a willingness and commitment to making the relationship work. I've learned a lot about this since I moved in with my boyfriend, and it's not like a Taylor Swift song at all. You really have to make it work, and it's not for the faint of heart.

That said, I admire the couples you see who've been married for 40, 50, even 60 years. That's some serious dedication right there.

^^^^^ This, seriously. Although, I figure, if you've lasted that long together then you have the right to call each other soulmates.

I believe in soul mates but I don't think it's some corny ~string of fate~ garbage because there's probably thousands of people in the world you could love in the same capacity. Knowing and being with someone you feel incredibly compatible with, who you love very much and couldn't be without, that's what soulmate translates to, for me.

I should think the term "soulmates" implies some mystical connection between two people, to the exclusion of all others. What does this mean in practical terms? Not much really.

Most relationships I know of, if not all, are a mish-mash of acceptances, compromises and creating something together that has value.

To me, a relationship; whether to a person, another living creature, an "inanimate" object, or even an idea, has the potential to become what Martin Buber would have called an "I-thou" experience, where the separation between the two disappears and something deeply personal and beyond the mundane arises from that experience.
