I'm not sure whether this belongs here or not, but anyway. I have a medical condition that causes the growth of tumours on the hearing and balance nerve, called vestibular schwannomas. I have two of these tumours and they cause me to have a serious balance problem and some hearing loss, as well as (unfortunately) a whole host of other symptoms. My whole family, pretty much, is affected - it's hereditary. Today I found out that in America, four people with my condition have tried a new drug treatment. Three of those people had significant shrinkage of the tumours (18%, on average) and also regained considerable hearing. This is huge. This could mean that by the time I'm older, there might be bigger and better drug treatments available. This means that in the future, I might get better. I'm seriously shaking with happiness right now. I love modern medicine.
