    If you're a man?

Is it acceptable? Because I've always been a feminist, ever since I watched Cagney and Lacey drive off that cliff in the name of girl power, in that film from the 90s.

Why would it not be okay to be a feminist?

Indeed so! But I'm still worried what people will think of me. Men will simply laugh at me, and some women will wonder if there's an interior motive.

Feminism is the belief that women are people.

Yes, of course it's more than okay. What's not okay is to not be feminist.

Quite frankly, if people are that concerned about your gender vs. your morals, they probably aren't worth your time.

That's a bit of a stretch. I don't identify as feminist and by no means am I a bad person (i.e. I don't go around treating women like objects).

I ain't no feminist. It is just an annoying ideology IMO.

I'm all for gender equality with a splash of equity upon this beautiful *vomits* relationship between man and woman.

    Ewww hairball...

Also, can you be a feminist if you've been sexist years before you became a feminist?

If the definition of a feminist is to agree that women and men are equal, and deserve equal rights, then its not acceptable to not be a feminist.

It was one time, when I was twelve, I made a sexist kitchen joke, that I heard my dad made, and now, I regret making it too.

No, it's okay to not be a feminist.

Personally I get one of two impressions of feminists.

1.) Okay people just wanting the world to be fair for both genders which I'm cool with.

2.) The transphobic man-haters who think women should form a matriarchy and enslave the male gender....needless to say this version of a feminist I hate.

Basically, I have mixed feelings about feminism.

Yes, you can and should be a feminist.

I'm really glad you're on the team.

This I agree with. However, use of the word "feminism" nowadays has many more extreme definitions than that :/

I have regrets too. I regret missing questions out in my history exam. I could have gotten a grade A but got a grade C. I learnt my lesson to answer all the questions in the exam. I did that for my law exam (Civil Litigation) and got a distinction (over 80%). (!) And I'm still unemployed...BWAHAHA

So use your past regrets as a strength! Something good may come out of it. *throws confetti*

I think it's fine, but alot of people want more than equal. That's sort of an issue in my opinion. We don't need to go in favor of women, or men. We just need equal!

Yes, but the existence of non-intersectional feminists doesn't mean that people should stop labelling themselves feminist. It would be like changing the name of my race because I don't like that Nigel Farage exists.

I agree with that definition of feminism, but people usually see it as something far more radical than that because it's developed a very radical wing.

Also, please do correct/explain to me, but I never really get why it's called feminism rather than something like gender egalitarianism? If the objective is to address problems in both genders to achieve equality? I feel as though I have the wrong end of the stick somewhere but I don't quite see why it's called feminism if the objective is equality b/w genders.

Feminism is sort of an outdated term*, but it means you support gender equality. So yes it's okay to be one if you're a man.

*I imagine it was first used because it represented women's' advancement. Sort of like the second "A" in NAACP. But that sort of attitude means you may want advancement even after equality is achieved. It's a dangerous mindset; I'd prefer to think of feminism as preventative of future injustice rather than just charging ahead and giving women every advantage available. <We see that already for minority groups in affirmative action.

Let's just accept that it is okay to be a feminist and that there are different definitions of feminism. Okay! :-D
