I don't know why but some people don't like to be called "cute". Not like "Your so cute, I'd date you." but more like "awww I want ruffle your hair" kind of cute. It bothers people I don't know why. Maybe it feels demeaning?

    What do you guys think?

I'd love to be called cute xD

    I'm not cute though :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I think because "cute" can be seen as another way of saying "Not sexy". Like someone wants to know if they are attractive and someone else says "Yeah, you're cute."

Depends who is saying it to me. If a hot guy and/or girl said it to me I'd blush, but other than that, I will give you a death stare/ tear open your chest cavity.

In that case, cute sounds demeaning, or at best, diminutive like a grandmother would. If it referred to me as attractive, then I'd love it

Calling me cute is the quickest and easiest way to win me over, so no it wouldn't bother me

"Cute" can have several meanings to me. One can mean that someone is not hot enough to be called "hot" but still pleasant-looking. Cute can also be a less creepy and less sexual way of saying someone is attractive in a sexual/romantic fashion but without saying "he's hot," at least in my opinion (although, to be honest, I don't really use the word cute outside of when dealing with my 13yo sister). To me, calling a guy "hot" overtly says I find him attractive in a sexual/romantic fashion and I just don't feel comfortable at this stage.

However mickey1101, I do agree that when someone calls someone else "cute" in the way you describe it can be bothersome. People should really be better and say either, "I like your hair, it's really cute" or something like that because in today's society, the word cute seems to be used in an almost apologetic sense.

Unless they were being patronizing, I wouldn't really be bothered if someone called me cute, I'd take it as a complement. Although if someone I fancied called me cute, I'd be mortified.

I may blush but I wouldn't really care. My only problem is that I never know how they're saying it. Then again no one would actually say it to me and I believe it because I'm not cute.

My Significant Other and I always get called "cute", like "youre a cute couple" I take it as a compliment, my S.O. says it's demeaning. Dunno how.

It bothers me a bit when someone calls me cute in that way, or treats me in a similar manner. But it happens to me a lot, so I'm just a bit tired of it. I'm going to be 24 soon, but I look and sound like I just turned 14. I don't mind being called cute from time to time, but if someone wants to ruffle my hair and pinch my cheeks then I might get annoyed. It just makes me feel like they're treating me like a child. Just because I might look child-like doesn't mean I am.

For me, it depends all on who says it. If a girl I am into calls me cute I don't like it that much especially if she doesn't know how old I am because sometimes people think I'm like 15yrs old...if that makes sense?

It all depends on the context it's used in. Sometimes cute means that it's a nice try, but still pathetic. Other times it means good looking and attractive.

I have such terrible body image right now that anything meant as a compliment about my appearance will be well received

Depends on the context. If it's not in a patronising sort of way, I don't mind at all.
