Good luck, and hope all goes well! Speaking of which, I'm looking for a therapist, here, and it's tough. They all seem to be so cognitively inclined, and I don't relate well to that...I like to talk about dreams, art, literature, symbols, roles...I think what I will do is phone some providers in my network, and feel them out, so to speak...what's worked best in the past is a more psycho-dynamic/Jungian approach, combined perhaps with Transnational Analysis and a humanistic bent. Behaviorism and CBT leave me cold, especially people like Albert Ellis and Skinner. It seems to just skim the surface, for me, yet it's all the rage. Well, if I was closer, maybe you'd have me as a patient! Good luck again, I'm sure you can help lots of people.
First off...thank you all Second, to Husky, finding a proper Analyst These days is very tough because insurance pushes for things like CBT and RET in the US. CBT is a great start in my opinion and a perfect fit for a great many people. I personally study Analysis because I like to look deep and view symbolism in clients' lives. Bear in mind (and this is to anyone reading) I am not saying CBT is any less of a practice than Analysis or humanism, it's merely what I resonate with Foxface
