I was doing research on my college dilemma (http://emptyclosets.com/forum/general-support-advice/120335-college-roommates.html) when I decided to take this advice:
The first time that I went to a PFLAG meeting, I just showed up. Everybody was really nice, and they all introduced themselves to me. If it would make you feel more comfortable, I'm sure the director would not mind if you emailed them.
Mine offers "Teen Lounges" and "Group Meetings", but they don't make it very clear what age ranges the "Group Meetings" are for. The "Teen Lounges" also seemed more like a LGBT activity event instead of a support group, so I think I may contact the director with questions about how it all works.
I sent them a contact us form, and one of the leadership ppl called me and we talked for a bit first. He told me he would meet me at the door at the night of the in-person meeting. I didn't end up meeting him till later cause he got tied up with other stuff...Everybody was really nice though, and they all introduced themselves to me. It ended up being cool.
The lady I contacted responded to me and she was really nice, I think I may actually go. I'm really nervous though. At least I have a couple weeks before the next meeting.
They seem really accepting and relaxed which is why I think they are such a popular church in my area. They have a giant rainbow flag hanging right at the entrance to their parking lot.
