I was just wondering if there is anyone on EC who's been to CERN?? or works there?? or has anything to do with it??
If not, who really want to go there?? Like me?

I was supposed to take a saturday physics class at fermilab, signed up and everything, but it's way too far for a morning and boring.

If you are of a scientific slant, you will regret not going later. Physics is actually pretty freaking awesome.

I'm not from Europe so will likely not see CERN or Fermilab any time soon, but I'd jump at the chance.

So someone has a thing for slamming protons together at nearly 99.99999% the speed of light and seeing what types of bosons result from the collision.

What, no one is concerned with creating a false vacuum state through quantum tunneling?

No that wont happen, we dont approach the Greisen - Zatesepin - Kuzmin limit with our particle accelerators. I'm not scared our universe will collapse upon itself.

C'mon someone talk cosmology with me.

Cosmology deals with particle and quantum physics of the universe. How the fundamental forces dictate the formation of the universe and the underlying principles of quantum mechanics. It deals with how gravity causes planets and stars to form. What is dark matter and dark energy. What is a black hole? Stuff like that.

I'm a chemist and biologist by training but I know a lot of physics and have taken an interest in theoretical physics lately so if you want to talk I'm all for it.

I definitely hope to go there some day. My interests lie more in astrophysics (especially orbital mechanics and the like) but still CERN is a pretty awesome place.
