Hopefully I'm not offending anyone but where do trans people go to the bathroom and when room placement, like class trips or whatever, would a ftm trans go to room with boys or girls? Just curious.
Well... I'd imagine it'd be someplace with functional plumbing... Anyway, whatever matches your identity, I guess. And how well you pass. I go for gender neutral when I can find it- men's if I think I can go in without being questioned. Women's only when I'm in a situation where I have to present female (like with family). As for school, depends. Some places have protection laws that allow students to use whatever suits their gender identity. Others, they'd be forced into using whatever they're legally written under. Unfortunate, yes.
I think you're going to find that the answer is generally a transitioned person will go to the restroom of the sex that they identify with.As it's rare to transition prior to being out of high school (my insurance policy for example requires that you be at least age 17, and meet all sorts of other requirements relating to length of time on HRT, etc - and yes, I have excellent insurance that would pay for all of this - I sometimes wish I could give it to someone that needs it).
It depends on a bunch of factors. Pre or post transition, how well you pass. Sometimes it's about the specific bathroom in question - some become generally seen as safe, while others can be presumed uncomfortable or dangerous. I personally have a mental list of safe bathrooms, and remarkable bladder control. As for school trips, I have no clue. I did room with two of my guy friends in college though, with no issues.
I use the female toilets because I'm female. I don't pass particularly well and nobody has said anything so far...
I'll use either. And, there definitely are places it's not safe to use the "wrong" bathroom, and other places where there is no wrong choice (regardless of the signage) no matter who you are.
As I'm gender fluid and am as comfortable in the men's bathrooms as I would be in the women's, I just go to the same on as my inherent sex--men's.
Well, I've never gotten shit for being in the men's room. I actually used to use it all the time on campus. But I later realized I wasn't passing as well as I'd thought. Like I'd have trouble with a computer system and when an intern referred me to front desk, they'd be all "Oh, she's having trouble with the log-in". So then I figured, I didn't want to risk anything if no one thought I was male. But using female restrooms was uncomfortable- I'd change in them, so I could present male on campus- but it was a huge reminder that I was different and not really male. I mean, what guy begins his day by changing out of a blouse in a women's room? :\ So yeah. Now it's gender neutral rooms, though managed a men's room (which I even changed in- had a coat that hid everything).
three of my close friends are trans (ftm) and two of them are required to use a gender queer bathroom, but the oldest has permission to use the male bathroom because he is a senior. I don't know about school trips, I'd say they would try and room together or with other friends that they are more comfortable around. For when out in public they use the male bathroom, no one has to know they are trans. Then again they look very biologically male, it actually took me three weeks to realise why one of them looked so familiar (we were in girl scouts together). For locker rooms we have a gender neutral room because none of them feel comfortable changing in the guys locker room.
Too lazy to read all the other posts. But basically transgender people are usually forced to act as their birth sex for a while and then they switch over when people are like "oh they look like a boy/girl so we can have them switch bathrooms now"
Depends on how well they pass. Those who are stealth shouldn't be bothered at all when using the bathroom.
I hold it, unless there's a gender-neutral one. I'm pre-transition, and I can't go into either without feeling out of place.
I'm kind of curious now, I only personally know trans ftm people not mtf so which do you think is easier for them to use the proper gendered bathrooms?
