I'm a tumblr addict. The .gifs are FABULOUS and some of the posts amuse me. But I've talked to friends of mine and my boyfriend said there is homophobia on tumblr.... Is this true?

Yes, Tumblr is the only social media site where homophobia exists. Sorry, I thought that every social media site had 100% of its users to be gay friendly. I guess not.

Every social networking site has some homophobes on it and Tumblr is no exception. But I see far more people who just don't care than people that hate homosexuality. Thankfully, none of those posts roll onto my feed. If they do, it's taken care of immediately.

Of course there is. The internet is nothing if not an extension of every other part of life, and that includes homophobia. It's common; there are even Fascists on Tumblr, so to be surprised that there's standard bigotry seems a somewhat unrealistic expectation. Of course, on Tumblr, everything is exaggerated, so the homophobia tends to be more disturbing and vitriolic than usual.

The best thing to do when something bad turns up on Tumblr is to unfollow where it came from. There are blogs devoted to hate, but there are also good blogs of all subjects (I even found a food blog which, rather surprisingly, posted some Nazi-apologism) with terrible stuff, and it's good to just make sure it doesn't come up in your feed at all by unfollowing them.

Tumblr might have a bit of homophobia but I find it extremely gay friendly. I am not going to mention my blog or what it is about. Maybe a hint: it is about opposing "snip snip"... And most of my followers and the people I follow are gay.

I didn't know that... It's where I find the most gay couples/blogs on the internet, and where I get to see loads of hot guys :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Tumblr is mixed. I've been on the site for almost four years and I've seen WAY more transphobia than homophobia. It's kind of disgusting to see how immense it is.

FWIW, there's also a lot of great trans sources on Tumblr.

Every social networking site has at least some degree of homophobia, DeviantART I know has it :icon_sad:

It will exist anywhere. Freedom of speech i guess. But it's pretty easy to make sure none of it is in your feed.

Which are cool, but the bullying can be relentless and it's kind of scary to see people go at one another for "not being trans* enough". I'm not sure if this is common in the MTF community, but it's fucking hell sometimes in the FTM community.
