I suspect the boces forum is a case of autocorrect gone bad, can you clarify so we can maybe be more precise in our comments?

I don't know what kind of learning disability you have but I hope this answer applies as well - a few of my friends have dyslexia (their emails and texts take autocorrect fails to a whole other level of nonsense, quite funny once you know them) and while it wasn't easy and they had to find help (from people, and technology) they managed to graduate from college and today are married have great jobs etc...

Absolutely not. Yours truly has Asperger's, and I live a normal life.

Definitely not. If we lived 100 years ago, maybe even 50 years ago, the answer might be different, but nowadays there are very few learning disabilities, very few mental disabilities in general, that can't be helped and worked around.

While not a learning disability, I'm bipolar and have severe anxiety. I still have a wonderful life full of friends, shopping, working, and handling all the normal adult responsibilities. I take medication and have weekly therapy in order to be able to lead the life I lead.

My therapist, actually, is dyslexic. She's told me about her struggles in school, but she got help in school and with a lot of determination she's now a licensed therapist, with a husband and daughter and two dogs.

If you are willing to work through it, disabilities don't have to be a "death sentence".

The stigma surrounding learning disorders is going away. You just have to find a way to work around them. But it doesn't need to ruin your life, and it certainly isn't a death sentence.

Not at all. I'll admit that major depression was one of the reasons my grades constantly fluctuated in school, along with a negative environment, but once I got that under control, setting academic goals became a lot more possible.

The first step would be recognizing you have a problem, second, managing it, and lastly, keeping it in check, so to speak. Some of the most gifted and successful individuals have suffered from multiple disorders, and you probably would never guess until they told you.

It might help if we knew what level of schooling you were in, and what the subject was. I actually ended up really enjoying Algebra, Trigonometry, and (from what I've learned purely from self-study at home) Calculus I, once I learned to work around my issues.

    <-----Bipolar (2, the depressive one).

I have a wonderful career and a good life. Short of like severe schizophrenia or legit severe mental retardation, mental disabilities don't mean you are a shut in recluse nut job. So get that out of everyone's head.

Are you in High school, college, etc?

Learning disabilities are far from a death sentence. I have learning disabilities and have a six figure income. Not bragging, but just stating what's possible if you find ways to compensate for them and truly apply yourself.

If you look at it, everyone has disabilities and problems. But there's always a way out (that is certainly not death). I hope you find it.

True... but there are also some whose problems are extremely difficult for them, though it may seem easy to others. Obstacles are all set to individual standards of each. Like you wouldn't expect a baby to run a mile, while you would expect that from a runner. That said, I don't think there are disabilities, there are just goals to accomplish. Did that make sense? :astonished:
