It's not as if the internet isn't real life. What someone says on the internet is a (generally more open) reflection of their beliefs. The internet is just communications infrastructure; it's as real as any other form of communication.

If anything, the internet doesn't make people bad, it just shows us more clearly how people are. And I think that's a good thing overall, for better or for worse. It's more honesty.
It's not all bullying and mean comments, and I do take those seriously, but it's also making crazy internet friends who are very very good people who can brighten your day and even make your life a whole lot better. I take everything seriously, I'm one of those people. But that can also include the good. So we can also benefit from the great good that people also share over the internet.

    Peace. <3

Nope. I actually find trolls and the terminally stupid incredibly amusing. Wonderful entertainment.

Of course, the friends I have made online and the deep and meaningful conversations I have with well-spoken, intelligent people I take seriously and enjoy immensely.

Actually you can see people's true personality come out behind a cloak of (semi) anonymity.

Yeah, there's a lot of good things about forums, including new friendships, but, a few bad things as well, and getting annoyed over opinions/comments, and having arguments are starting to me feel very tired.

Maybe not the whole internet, but I take support forums like this one very seriously, and in particular, I take the problems of my queer sisters and brothers to be very important.

Yes and no. On a support forum, I usually take things seriously, and I submit about 60% of my assignments for school online.

For something like tumblr, youtube, steam, etc, I just kick back and goof off, paying little attention to what's going on around me, and just focusing on whatever

    It's serious business.

But seriously, there are some subjects that I am very passionate about and I end up feeling frustrated or annoyed by what I am reading. I feel this way whenever I get into debates revolving around racism or immigration - even though I am not an immigrant myself, or an ethnic minority, I get a little upset when I see people being openly racist on the internet, or lambasting all immigrants as benefit cheats or horrible, vulgar slurs like 'Paki' (I absolutely hate that word).

Generally not. I've ran into far, far too many people that make outlandish claims for attention. It's hit a point that I'll usually think a person is lying when they claim something bad as happened unless they're able to back it up.

I'm one of those people who's as genuine as possible. However, on places like Youtube, it's a given that there are trolls. So I go in with the notion to pick out which comments are the trolls so I can take the other ones seriously.

    Why so serious?
    It's serious business.
Yes, I generally take comments seriously unless they're troll comments.
Bad spelling and bad logic also tend to make me take people less seriously.
A really inflammatory comment will make me mad for about 25 seconds. Then I laugh and move on.

I'd say yes and no. I just try to remember that I don't know who is sitting behind that post or whatever. I don't know what life they've lived or what kind of person they are. I cant be absolutely certain that I am understanding their intended meaning with what they are writing. Some people dont write well.

I could go on and on but you get the idea...

    Nope, not at all.

If I did, I'd have to reevaluate my life.
