I wasn't sure which category to put this in. You see, I'm writing this novel, about someone who's transexual (mtf), and I was wondering if anyone could help me out? Have you got any stories or anything that might be useful, or help me write honestly about the character? Any help is much appreciated
Try the gender identity and expression subforum. The thread 'gay trying to understand transsexual' would be particularly useful.
I would definitely say to put the notion that sex and gender are different front and center of the story. Keep that running in people's minds, because it's something that very few people are aware of, and thus a lot of ignorant assumptions are made about transexual people because they're transgender. Those ignorant assumptions are also potential plot devices.
I think I'll have a look at that Thanks ---------- Post added 23rd Feb 2014 at 11:23 AM ---------- I'm not sure yet Maybe more about trying to understand it, and finding it difficult to help other people understand ---------- Post added 23rd Feb 2014 at 11:25 AM ---------- I think I'm going to concentrate on the character feeling like they have to explain themselves to other people, and struggling to do that ---------- Post added 23rd Feb 2014 at 11:26 AM ---------- That's a good point. I'll keep that in mind when I'm writing ---------- Post added 23rd Feb 2014 at 11:28 AM ---------- Any stories would be useful I think, mtf or ftm. I think that it might be necessary to have a small group of online friends who are in similar situations, so that the character doesn't feel as alone So really any perspective would be both helpful and appreciated ---------- Post added 23rd Feb 2014 at 11:28 AM ---------- Thanks Will do
