whats most impressive is that these were done with oil which tends to be a rather temperamental medium

Very nice lighting conditions and colors; though, the style ("photorealism/hyperrealism") is well-established.

Indeed. I haven't been able to wrap my head around how to use it properly.

I do like it. I think this artist is incredibly talented. However, if I'm seeing art, I'd rather see an interpretation of something than an actual something. But this person's artwork is redeemed in my eyes by the fact that it comes alive. It's beautiful and different, not just basic portraits.

Oil is easy. It stays wet for so long that you can do things to death. Work like this is rather mechanical. I don't really like these. Except for the one with the water, the subjects aren't that interesting — when you eliminate all expression and focus 120% on presentation, the subject pretty much becomes the main issue.
Art is subjective, and work like this is probably impressive seen live, but when I look at these, I can't help but notice the lack of an idea.
