Just a random thought that popped into my head while I was working on this scholarship that requires me to write an essay about controversial problems in high school.

So, I was just curious, do you think your school wastes money? And what kinda things do they waste it on?

My school, for example, has about 300 iPod touches and probably about 50-100 Macs, AND brand new computers in all of our computer labs. Now, it may just be me, but that seems pretty wasteful, dontcha think -.-

Ah yeah, and my school also has AT LEAT 10 football coaches, and yet, academic teachers get cut like all the time. Just last year, they cut a teacher from every ACADEMIC department.

And my school aaaalways has these up-to-date fancy, expensive as hell copier machines. But EVERYDAY one of them breaks down -_-

My high school devoted so much money on the marching band and football team and practically neglected all the other extracurricular activities (the art program, the string orchestra, the chorus, drama, some of the "lesser" sports like the swim team and basketball team, etc.).

Sounds like my old high school: So much $$$ for football, athletics and administrators, with cuts to the arts, music and teachers.

And now I work at a college, where it's much the same old song and dance: Cuts to the arts and humanities, big bonuses for the administrators. Oh, and a new $10 million mansion for the president.

Our school bought about 50 iPads (for a school of 215) and 50 Chrome Books and are planning to buy more even though they have horribly restrictive access and most kids in my town own one or a similar device. They also spend money on different programs and databases that are never used, whereas the music department has decade old instruments, flooding damage, have had their storage taken over, and need instrument replacements (we have ONE marching snare drum.)

When I was in high school, it was this thing that was supposed to disable everyone's cell phones. It didn't work at all. Then the new football stadium, very expensive, just because. And then they turn around and say they can't afford to teach French any more.

If anything, my school was underfunded compared to our rivals who had their astroterf redone twice in a year. We've had risers for our productions since the 1960s.

My school's doing the same! Some people find it efficient but I think it's a waste of money and perfectly good cash registers.

When I was in high school. Our textbooks were outdated, half destroyed, and most had mashed up chew spit in them >.>

Our school gets 70,000 to play around with and instead of new textbooks or anything useful they got an electronic sign to hang pretty outside >.<

Our school wasted a lot of money, but its forced on them because they have a limited list of companies they can buy supplies from and that basically means they get ripped off, getting crappy products at prices that are wayyyyyyyyy too high. Thy can't buy from anyone else so there's no competition driving prices down and that's why we can't have nice things.

My school has spent so little on athletics that the basketball court is considered to have an above average risk of causing injury because it hasn't been resurfaced ever (it was built in 1967). Not sure how art and music are doing, but math and science are doing well, foreign language is getting gutted hard, and social sciences are about average.

I have been out of school for a long time, but the local community college wasted money by putting smartboards in every classroom. They have 2 per room at $2200 each, and a computer to drive them, when a similar sized white board cost only about $600. Chalk boards even less at about $400.

We had those at Job Corps, but we paid a small fraction of the market price for them.

It would be one thing if they used the smartboards to give classes in more than one place, or to give students a copy of the notes on them. They just use them as white boards though.

We used them for computerized presentations using the touch screens, as white boards, and as projectors.
