I'll start by saying that I am a logical thinker. I like for things to have a right and wrong answer with nothing in between. Mostly, I was just wondering what type of minds come together on EC and it would be cool to hear about it. For instance, I think I have extremely good observation skills and can do it usually with little to no bias. However, I struggle to analyze anything abstract. That can be from interpretive dance to a simple riddle. For me, what you see is what you get. So how about you?
Well I'm a scientist (chemist by training) so I definitely have to do both. I do well with rules and structure in either situation.
I'm definitely more of an abstract thinker. I'm much more at home within the realms of symbolism, allegory and metaphor than statistics and numbers.
Both, I guess. I find facts solid-based, yet the abstract has always been something to intrigue me... I am used to facts weaved into abstract.
lol i only was in museums when I was younger but ye I got bored quickly ... maybe its most kids anyway ! But I don't agree that logic is the opposite of abstract. I'm both physicist and computer scientist, and for both of them u need to have both logic and abstract thinking. There was even a joke about it in Big Bang Theory about the spherical chicken in a vaccum, thats abstraction of a problem to help u solve it. So yeah, embrace both sides!
I'm a weird mix of both. I do enjoy abstract stuff, but I often want concrete proof for stuff that is not concrete. Take my sexuality for example, I kind of want to identify as gay, but I don't have enough "proof." This is a big problem in my life because this is keeping me closeted.
to be free of bias in our reasoning is near impossible.the best we can really hope for is identifie what our bias are.and learn to engage the world with humility. logic like all scientific methods is a great tool to stop us lying to ourselves but i fear we use it pretty selectively.
