I may be out of the loop because I've never really been a texter and only started texting when I got my iPhone around 2008 and had a full keyboard. I do use emoticons (after my dad got them downloaded into his iPhone and started to send them to me) but they're usually pictorial in nature like the ones here on EC but I've never understood stuff like "^-^" or XD. The first time I heard of "xD" was when my sister started watching the Disney XD channel. To me, "^-^" looks like creepy anime-like eyes (don't even know what they're called). I know I'm only 23 and quite embarrassed about this but I'm at a loss. Any help? ________ And, more importantly, do they communicate as effectively as the written word?
couldnt have said it any better myself lol. xD is face thats like.. i like to describe it as "laughing so hard it hurts" Ex. If someone were to text me something like.. "Omg i just walked into a pole while texting you" i would reply with "xD" because id be laughing my damn ass off lol. theres lots of others too. just ask haha
-_- Shady anime eyes. m-_-m bowing on the grown with hands prostrate <( *- * <) kirby wants a hug. Ummm...
Could be better if you list some examples you use because I usually I can't recall any others besides the standard ;-) ones.
To be honest, there are SO DAMN MANY you're better off learning them as they come up (if they come up) or pretending they are all smiling faces
I interpret that emoticon as a happy anime face. I hope I'm correct. Can you see this List of emoticons I use xD to convey I'm laughing and/or joking. I also use some others now and then. I'm even guilty of internet slang such as 'lol' sometimes. I've tried to cut it out because nothing ruins a document faster than "Employees are bickering over stop cards. We must stop the stop cards lol."
Yeah, that sounds like a better idea. What does the "creepy anime-like eyes" mean anyway? Does it express elation or happiness? I've never been exposed to anime besides watching an episode or two of Pokemon with some neighbors when I was little so I'm not sure what expression they're trying to convey.
I had a discussion with someone about the following emotic: --o I asked him if he understand the emotic and apperantly most people take it the wrong way, its acctually two eyes and a mouth, like a person lecturing u about something that is SO obvious. >.> ---------- Post added 27th Feb 2014 at 04:30 AM ---------- yes it usually mean happiness
Well that particular set of eyes is supposed to be really happy; observe: Somewhere between more than a smiley face and "I'm going to jump-hug you because I'm so happy"
">.>" and " >_> " are both subject to debate because they both convey so many different emotions... Most of the people I talk to over instant messaging use this (these) emoticon(s), which I call "shifty eyes", and it conveys any of the following emotions or thoughts: annoyance, guilt, exasperation (usually ellipses [...] followed by " >_> " or " >.>"), and embarrassment. As for the others... " ^_^ " is anime-influenced and probably originated in anime chat rooms and forums, and it's basically the same thing as " =) ", although probably a little more lighthearted and non-serious. "xD" and "XD" denotes excessive laughter. I'm guilty of overusing those two, so it gives the impression that I laugh a lot...which I don't, so when I use it, it doesn't carry much weight and probably just means I find something at least mildly funny. It's just a habit I have. One of my close friends and my ex both rarely use the emoticon, so I know when they use it, they're genuinely laughing on the other end
It is 'an anime face' i guess but it originates from japan where instead of having emojis like we do ~ :3 etc, they have ones like~ ^-^ *\(^o^)/* (*^^*) ☆*:.。. o(≧▽≦)o .。.:*☆ Its quite cool ^^
I hardly use emoticons in the first place, but I know that these are Asian-style emoticons. I'm pretty sure they're Japanese. In China, this emoticon is pretty popular.囧
