Gay Religion?

I'm not very knowledgeable about legal stuff, but ye in theory if u make a religion and live in a place that ought to accept all religions and in your religion gay people can marry, then ... yep.

 

Makes sense to me If a Science Fiction writer from the 50's can create a religion centred around his works merely for the excuse not to have to pay taxes, and we still have brain dead nimrods today throwing their money away on Xenu's enlightenment, anything is possible

 

I guess it's possible, but the only issue would be getting people to join.
I think this is one of those unpopular 'popular' ideas. The ones where people are like, "Yeah! Awesome!!" but then don't want to make the commitment themselves.

Honestly, I probably wouldn't join. It'd be too 'label-y' for me.

 

If I my flick in my 2 cents... After going through a hellish personal battle to accept myself being gay and battling it with my Saviour I feel no need to abandon my religion/faith for what the masses think/say/expect/dictate.

But good luck with the venture. Just dont go all bonkers like that group Mr T Cruise belong to... yikes!

 

In my beliefs any two people in a monogamous relationship that last 3 years or longer and who live together and love each other become spiritual bonded and ought to by right be recognized as legally married if they so wish it to be so.

 

The law kind of agrees - common law relationships, if they last long enough, automatically get some of the benefits of marriage.

 

I somehow could see this backfiring. Not from being gay, but the religious conservatives that believe that it's a part of the gay 'agenda' or a conspiracy to influence others of catching 'teh gay'

 

What about gay people that already belong to a different religion though..

 

Irrelevant, because I can only see the "gay religion" being as legit as pastafarianism, which means it may have members, but nobody would truly honestly believe in it. It would be made as a reductio ad absurdum argument for religious freedom, and to illustrate how completely stupid some legal technicalities can be.

It would be cool though, because for members at least, discriminating against them would mean an offense to their religion, so they could claim "freedom of religion!" and be using the exact same justification as the prejudiced opponents. Homophobics would be powerless in the face of Rainbowlicism.

I honestly thought of something like this when I first read the title, though it's probably not far from the truth...

If we're to have a religion, there should be some set of doctrines, first. Regarding the term "gay religion", would that mean it would be founded by and for gay people, and if so, how would that make sense, theoretically? We'd need something to unite them, and most religions have geographical or ethnic origins, but were able to spread to others outside of those close knit communities. The idea almost seems like having a gender religion, or an age religion... not sure how it would be enforced, either way.

Well, the religion that I belong to, Unitarian Universalism advocates for the equality of all people and allows same sex marriage. Anyway, with all of these lower federal court decisions against marriage discrimination, the US Supreme Court is almost certain to decide the issue in 2015. Mark my words.
