heyy ,so I'm trying to choose my name and I was wondering what you think, can a femme person choose a masculine name. A little bit of background knowledge, my birth name is Alayna but online I go by Lani due to name dysphoria. I am a freshman in high school who is currently transitioning from bio female to gender fluid. The name I have chosen is James and nothing else has fit me in the way James does. While I portray myself as femme I am, inside, a very masculine person.

You can choose whatever name you want. James is really nice name. Good luck. If you don't mind my asking when you talk about transitioning to gender fluid does that mean you're not either gender? Sorry, if that was rude, I don't know a lot but things like this.

You could call yourself Man-face McManson and it would be perfectly acceptable.

You choose what you think fits you best.

These days I don't think its unusual for masculine names to belong to femme images. Not the same situation but my daughter was given a masculine name and was almost in fact names James. Its a trend and I think most people wouldn't think twice about it.

Of course you can. Brad fits me well, and I'm not the most masculine guy in the world.

Why not its up to you, it is YOUR name after all.

  15. Everyone has their views on what a masculine name is. You can always choose one of those interchangeable names that many people have like Alex, Sam, Riley, and Kaidan. But remember, it's all up to you, so since you chose James, then you should go with James with you want.

Sure. Names have a way of just fitting us, and it really doesn't matter what their arbitrary connotations are.

Is James supposed to be a masculine name? I've known Jameses all over the spectrum. Including a very mellow black cat with a paralyzed tail. (Though we always called him Jim or Jimmy.)

I think people tend to overthink and overstate how "male" or "female" a name is. Most names can be unisex; in fact in today's world it's common to give girls traditional 'boy' names and boys traditional 'girl' names.

I mean obviously there are some exceptions. I've never met a femme flamboyant gay guy whose names was "Biff", for example.

Sometimes I wonder whether a person's given name really does influence the kind of person he or she will be. For example, guys with names like "Tyler" or "Ethan" or "Bryce" seem to be more often to be gay skinny boyish guys, guys with names like "Biff" or "Don" tend to be straight short stocky chubby manly men. People of the same given name seem to often exhibit similar traits. Of course there's nothing scientific about that analysis, just a general personal observation.
