I think that many stereotypes for gays are believed in way too much. I hate it when somebody comes up to me asking me if I have any purses or any other "feminine" items. How do you guys feel about LGBT stereotypes?

Sometimes they are stupid and not true. I think they're just there to understand and to classify the gays. But every human is so different. You can't put them all in one term:grin:

Sometimes I think stereotypes are there for a reason. It's true there are a lot of feminine gay guys and butch lesbians, and it's human nature to want to classify things.

However, they don't always hold true and I think its best not to assume anything about anyone unless they tell you. For example: I have long hair and I wear makeup, but I do love videogames and can be quite 'guy-like' according to my friends. I'm also gay. Not everything is black and white, and everyone's different.

There are also a lot of stupid gays besides the straight ones. Because stupidity and superficiality are plagues that affect everyone who is half-wit.

This is true, especially the bold. With a label handy, people can get a grip on a situation, or they think they can.

The stereotypes don't bother me all that much. I fit a few of them. I'm neat, I have good penmanship, I am more verbal and well spoken than most guys, and I only follow sports once they're down to the playoffs, if then.

The way to look at this, for me, is: Not all gay (or bi) guys are REALLY into Marilyn Monroe and other divas, but most guys who are REALLY into Marilyn Monroe and other divas are gay (or bi). It's the latter part of the equation that creates the stereotype, not the former part.

I hate how people think I'm repressed rather than just not interested.

    This.

They tend to confuse genuine lack of interest with that, without even considering that the former is a possibility. :l

A not-feminine-at-all punch is the answer.
But it's not just about LGBT, all stereotypes in general are offensive

I hate the stereotypes, especially because I don't really fit into any of them.

    I deal with so many
The ones about bisexuals being promiscuous
Ones about the lgbt community being immoral
The ones about Christians being bigots
    They suck in general

This can really bug me, as if there is one thing I really don't like its wilful ignorance, which stereotyping is often the product of.

When I came out to someone, they said to me:
"OMG but you're so manly!" that kinda made me laugh a little.
    Usually it's pretty offensive though.

My grandmother didn't believe I was gay because I'm too masculine (apparently), and she uttered a lot of random stereotypical gay traits that I don't exhibit, such as 'prancing around'. I was a little offended, but she's 74, and has a lot of ridiculous and outdated ideas regarding almost everything. I told her firmly that she was talking out of her arse.

I used to hate them, now I don't care.
I only care when it gets really annoying... Like... a male friend of mine, after I came out to him, thought it was appropriate to treat me like one of his buddies, telling me to rate girls' breasts or butts and making stupid jokes about sex all the time.
The key is to detach yourself from stereotype thinking. Even if others continue to do it, you'll say "uh, whatever, I'll do what I want anyway".

I can't stand the ''you're too pretty to be a lesbian'' stereotype. But Bria and Chrissys video lights me up everytime I get mad at that stereotype. Here is their video..

I can't change peoples ignorance.. Maybe one day some people in the world will wake up and realise a female doesn't have to be butch to be a lesbian and a man doesnt have to be feminine to be gay. Some of the most feminine girls in the world can be gay. There are so many feminine lesbian youtubers.. We're everywhere we just aren't visible. Same goes for gay guys.

I hate them. Especially the ones about people who are bisexual. I'm not a slut, easy or anything else like that, I'm just attracted to hot people regardless of gender :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I hate them because they put lids on our community and people suddenly think all of us are the same, it's like generalizing that all straight people are the same.

There are fem straight men, masculine gay men, butch straight women, and fem lesbians and vice versa. I don't really care about the whole "fem vs masc" thing but we shouldn't all just be generalized based on our sexual orientation or gender identity.

I hate them the one I hate the most is when people say lesbian can't be feminine or pretty I hate that one the most or when they tell me I don't give off a lesbian vibe
