The famous Estelle Getty, best known for playing Sophia on the "The Golden Girls" has passed away on July 22, 2008 at the age of 84, three days short of her 85th birthday.

She was a great actress. I loved her as Sophia on Golden Girls.

This makes me sad because the Golden Girls has been one of my favorite shows for many years. I always watch it on Lifetime. Hmm...if nothing else proves I'm gay, that might.

My son loves Golden Girls too. Why do you think this show appeals to gays?

I'm not really sure why it would appeal to gays. I think it's funny enough for anyone. But I guess the fact that it's about four women makes it less appealing to straight men. The main issue for me is that I watch the show on a television channel whose slogan is "Television for women." Haha...and last time I checked, I was not a woman.

I loved her. Golden Girls was a great show too! I know they had a gay chef at sometime. They never show the episodes in order so I have no idea when that was. But, I think it appeals to some gay guys cause it was about getting older and dealing with dating odd guys.

They did have a gay chef who's name was Coco, he was only in the pilot episode. After that, who knows what happened to him. It's never really said.

Golden Girls is my all-time, number one favorite show D:

I have season one, a t-shirt, and a book I just bought at Barnes and Noble. It's called "The Q Guide to the Golden Girls"... Q as in Queer! It has everything about Golden Girls, interviews with the girls, the best gay-friendly episodes and the top ten reasons why gay people love it.

Oh, and about Coco the gay cook... He was cut because there were too many characters and not enough time. They were very sad to cut him because they wanted a diverse show but they had to..

And so, when I heard about Estelle Getty I just about died!

My favorite show of all time. Nothing is better than the Golden Girls and I am truly sad that Estelle Getty has passed on but glad that she is at peace.

She totally rocked my socks. As all the other GG girls.

There's speculation since the other Girls never turned up to her funeral... which is pretty sad too.
