I've googled and from what I got it's like not saying you're a gender? Is that right? Then what is queer in the context of ones sexual orientation? I apologize for my ignorance..
you can see this video, she refers to queer as well https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIESBwbhRg4 (2:49) and there are some comments about it also
Queer: Those who are not both heterosexual and cisgender. This can be used to describe sexuality more specifically, meaning something hard to pin down, but usually somewhat multisexual. Genderqueer: Gender falling somewhere between male and female.
Yes, queer means basically "not straight"...which includes a hell of a lot of diversity! And I love the word and its reclamation. It may *mean* "not straight", but it carries with it a whole subtler context to me...queer people just have a vibe that is more fun, more relaxed (even among "uptight" queer people), more self-aware. There's something about coming through the path we come through that makes us different...a bit queer...and it doesn't matter whether it's a sexuality variance, a gender variance, or both...it's a common bond.
I've always taken it as meaning not straight, but it of course has it's gender meanings as well. My sister (who is pansexual) and I poke fun at each other all the time with it. "God you're so queer!" or "I'm here and I'm queer!" ;P I guess it's one of those things where context matters. If it's a term of endearment, it's okay, but when it's used as an insult, I'm obviously offended.
