This guy has been on UK TV constantly at the moment, he is coming across as all homophobic but he says what the average joe wants to hear about Europe so he is getting very popular with the Euroskeptic part of the UK (Mostly the South East England) I am kinda worried about his popularity, even though I live in Ireland my Family still live in North England which isn't a UKIP area at all and is politically far more like Scotland than Southern England..
Homophobic he is, but that isn't what concerns me most. I am concerned that UKIP is threatening to further destroy whatever bonds of compassion we have left for each other.
Yeah, the homophobia is relatively small in face of the transphobia, sexism, racism, and general attitude of "let's get away with as many far-right policies as we can without being labelled Facsists." They're scum, and deserve to be publically attacked with rotten vegetables. Like the Australian PM, the "common bloke" behaviour will disappear upon any gain of actual power.
Funny you should say that. Ironically the reason why UKIP are popular in some parts is very similar to how the SNP got elected, they are both an alternative to the main 3 parties. With the exception of 1 green MP there isn't any other alternative. I mean the Greens are kinda crazy and their support for LGBT rights doesn't counter their lack of clarity on spending, and the English left wing is just full of fractured parties. Lib Dems are compulsive liars who if you are working class and got nothing from Labour (who are pointless now they are pulling out from the unions) or the Tories then who is there to vote for? (Not my opinion but from news coverage etc. I am actually a pro-EU socialist )
I don't think these UKIP morons are worth taking seriously. They'll probably have almost as much influence as the BNP (who remembers those bigots). We've seen these batshit crazy minor parties in Australia. They'll be popular for about one or two election cycles, then they'll fade into obscurity.
David Cameron referred to UKIP as a bunch of "swivel eyed loons and closet racists". I don't often agree with Cameron, but on this he's absolutely right. For me, UKIP is the British version of the Tea Party.
I think UKIP are needed in UK politics, though not because they'll get into Government. Just so the main parties have to take notice and hold back. UKIP are nothing more than somewhere for the electorate to dump their protest vote. As for Scottish independence, I really couldn't care less as I think we'll all be a United States of Europe or European Alliance one day anyhow. ---------- Post added 2nd Apr 2014 at 02:09 PM ---------- I think Cameron is a hell of an improvement over Blair any day. By the way, as you're from Humberside, did you know that the Humber Bridge is actually bigger than the Golden Gate Bridge?
Yes, I used to cross the Humber bridge two or three times each week as my ex used to live in North Humberside (it's a scary experience when there are strong crosswinds).
They've been charging a quid ever since Rodney drove over it in his Reliant Robin in Only Fools and Horses.
 - used to cost me £5.80 to make the return journey (expensive dating). Maybe I should have gone in a Reliant Robin instead!
