Do you have to cut to be considered emo? Because I'm emo, but I never cut myself.

Certain hairstyles, clothes, music and so forth yes, but self harm is a definite no no.

That's what I was thinking, but one of my coworkers told me I was just a poser cause I didn't cut. But I could never do that.

I can imagine your coworker being sarcastic. (And yes, a fucking idiot too.)

But yeah, hairstyles, clothing, music, stuff like that should do.

There is more truth in this statement than in a million other truthful statements on the internet. :eusa_clap

Emo is a style nothing more.

Coincidentally I chose emo status just because it matches my hair color in latest pic.

Thanks y'all. I'm really not even into emo music all that much. But the style is what I love. Ive always like black and dark grey, and gives me a chance to wear it more often. Plus, a lot of emo clothes are unisex, so I feel way more comfortable.

To be honest I'm pretty sure emo without cutting is sometimes referred to as scene or something
    It's stupid to separate it.
You can be emo and not cut.

You don't have to cut to be emo.

Though some people assume I'm emo because they see what I paint, only they don't know it's not real.

You don't have to cut to be emo, and not all people who cut are emo. Your coworker is stupid. Emo is just a style.

No don't cut yourself, emo is just a style. I was more of a goth than an emo growing up but it was just a style, clothes, make up, spiky jewelry ect.. Emo doesn't mean your depressed or cut yourself. my group I hung around with in school were emos and Goths and were the funniest group of people we just all liked the style and the same music.

I like the emo look. Of all the styles to have emerged in more recent times, it's among those that catches my eye the most. When it gets mixed with the neko/kitty-boy look, it's even cuter. And no, I don't think you have to do anything, cutting or other wise.

No. Emo is a style. Self harm is a serious thing. Your coworker is an idiot.

my son was scene a few years ago, around here it meant wearing bkack with BRIGHT pants, like neon lime green skinny jeans. as far as his emo friends to cut or self harm in any way was a personal choice but with or without you were emo with your style, music ect. we had a preppy cutter also hanging out here too.

I'd have emo style if I could pull it off. But not only would I not cut myself, I freaking love life and want to suck all the marrow out of it. Can one be an emo transcendentalist? :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

That's kind of like asking, "Do I need to have anorexia to be a prep?" You don't choose to have a mental illness based on your choice of clothing style.

On a side note, I didn't know emo even existed anymore...
