Out in the Army: My Life as a Gay Soldier by James Wharton. I just finished reading this book and thought it might be an enjoyable read by anyone who wants to read about what is was like for someone who joined the (British) army, who is also gay. I found it to be interesting, as I was in the USAF a long time ago, when it was a criminal offense to engage in homosexual activities, and subjected you to a court-marshall. Cpl. Wharton came out early in his career as a 16 year-old, when official policy had just changed, but some of the people in his command hadn't. It is an interesting story, well written, and covers his time in the service both in a ceremonial horse regiment for the Queen, and in the field in Iraq, as well as serving as a gunner for Prince Harry.
Not the type of thing I generally read. Though it does sound interesting, I will have to see if my library has it or not.
That sounds really good! A book that I have been wanting to read recently, but would have to figure out how to hide from my mother, is Stone Butch Blues. Does anyone have any comments about it? I think it sounds very interesting.
