Yeah that kinda thing... I think it has to do with accents.

Milk. I make a point to pronounce things how they should be pronounced, but it's funny because sometimes I'll trip over words anyway and screw them up/likely have to repeat them. :S

Wouldja believe "tamaytoe"? (and sheesh, I just realized that when I get sloppy, it's "tamaydoe")

    Here's a few more:

    Crayon vs. Cran
Mountain vs. Moun|ain (full vocal stop after the n, but no actual t sound)
    and my favorite
Tree vs. Chree (almost *nobody* actually says tree if they really pay attention :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:)

Oh, and to the OP: milk...I've always wondered about people who say "melk"...it's refreshing to know that you're aware you're doing it *smile*.

    Milk.

This one and calling a pillow "pellow" annoy me so much...and for no good reason too.

    LOL, happy to have helped!

I've been working on myself with "mountain" for years. I first noticed it in my friggin' 30's, when I was reading "The Hobbit" aloud, and noticed that when I talked about "the Misty Mountains" or "the Lonely Mountain", I sounded like an idiot!

"Tree" I discovered in graduate school, and was just flabbergasted to realize that virtually nobody pronounces it like it's written, despite what a small word it is (hmmm, although now that I think of it, most "tr" words have the same issue...tried and true). Still, I don't worry overly about this one.

But "cran" (or perhaps I should say "craan" since the 'a' sound gets stretched out almost to the point of another syllable) my partner pointed out to me fairly early in our relationship. And damned if she wasn't right! Just a bad habit left over from childhood...I'd never had it pointed out before! I *think* I'm much better now, LOL.

Where I live, most people pronounce the "t" sound by sort-of curling and putting their tongue on the top of their mouth, instead of on their teeth. And we say the "r" sound pretty harshly too :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: so nearly everyone says tree.

    I say milk though.

I've said "melk" as long as I can remember, and only recently someone pointed it out lol. I'm glad to hear there are other people that say it like I do though!
