I was reading my local news site and then read this: Sittingbourne thug Steven Murray jailed after mugging his own gran to pay drug debt The guy in the story had been bullying me for many years, and was a real scumbag tbh, it's horrible that he mugged his nan, but I'm just so happy that he's been arrested. But, the point of my thread is, should I feel guilty that I'm overjoyed that he's been arrested or should I feel shame as he's put others through hell to which has led to him getting arrested?
Shit no you shouldn't feel guilty. I remember how hard I laughed when it turned out one guy who bullied me in school ended up robbing HIS gran, moving to spain and ended up penniless, got back and then got arrested, Heck it STILL makes me laugh. Why should YOU feel bad because HE was a dick?
no I just feel guilty for being overjoyed that he was in prison, despite the fact that he put others through misery to get there.
Why should you feel guilty about that? He did bad things and was put in prison for it. People do bad things all the time and get sent to prison, which I'm guessing you don't feel guilty about? The only difference is that THIS bad guy was bad to you. Why shouldn't you feel overjoyed that the guy that made your life hell finally got what he should have got when you were younger?
You're not the only one that's been overjoyed that someone who harmed them is in prison. There was some girl back in my hometown that just went down the wrong path in general and a couple months ago stabbed a kid in the chest. He's all right, but she's looking at a few years in prison for that.
Hmm... today a kid in my school was arrested, for something pretty serious. If he was an adult, he would... I don't know the law in Ohio, but in New York he would receive 15 years... so he was definitely a bad apple. Anyway, some of my friends cheered for his departure. It's certainly justice, but being glad about justice is a question for philosophers...
I remember several years ago hearing on the TV news that a former school bully of mine (not one of the more extreme, though) had been busted along with a few others in a heroin sting. What goes around, maybe...
This comment has made you my best friend :3 Seriously though, why would you feel guilty? Someone did something bad and they got arrested. I know this is a crazy concept, but you can feel sympathy for the people he's hurt while also feeling happy about his arrest. Let me ask you this: Are you happy he hurt other people, or are you happy he's in jail? I'm guessing the answer is the later.
You're taking no pleasure from the hurt he caused others; you're happy because he finally got his. You have a sense of closure knowing that at least a little justice has been served against somebody who made things hard for people around him, and that's fine.
"No mercy for the guilty." -Diana song (LoL) He got what he deserved. There is nothing wrong on you being happy about it.
A kid who used to bully me in middle school and high school got arrested a few years ago for breaking into someone's home. I laughed.
