I'm sure there are artsy fartsy people here. Discuss or post art or photos for us all to oooh and aaaah at (assuming its appropriate of course). I personally am into photography (portraiture specifically).

I'm not sure if deviantart counts as a profile site so I wont link to my page, but here is one of my current favorite photos I took of a friend a few days ago:

I hope this photo isn't breaking any rules (I haven't been here in a while).

very nice! I'm a huge fan of portrait photography myself, and would love to submit an example of my own, but i would rather not deal with getting permission for that. However, I will post a still life I did. P.S. - I mostly work in video production, so photography is my secondary thing.

I JUST started photographing people. Not good at it yet. Until then, you're stuck with inanimate objects.

Ast, I love the water work on yours! Those are really neat!

And panda - wow! The flowers are really dramatic! Excellent job!

When I bought my camera, I was going to take pictures of pretty things like flowers and kittens and nature. But it appears I'm best at things like urban decay. Ah well.

LOVE the mickey mouse one Lex! I can just imagine a young child standing in front of that wall with his or her mouth gaping wide open like "woah... that's a lot of mickey's mommy!"

here's another one I took recently.

okay, so i hope you don't think i am stupid, but someone please explain to me what makes a good picture. that kind of sounds stupid but when i see a picture, i don't think that the picture is beautiful, i think what's in the picture is. i can't understand what is artistic about it, like you just so happened to take a picture of something that is beautiful. and i'm really not trying to criticize photography, it's just something that confuses me a little. and i mean i understand perspective and clarity, but in the end it seems like it would all just come down to the subject. i hope i don't offend anyone and like, i really want peoples input.

Psh you underestimate me Lex, thats what i was going for all along!

Yeah...jk im just a pop culturally uneducated drone of the 21st century, who knew nothing of Jane Child before you mentioned her. However now that you did mention her, I bet she is one of the only women who can pull off making braids look badass! xD

And SAYITFORREALZ, its sounds like you're making photography into too much of a science. You don't really find the right thing to take a picture of through calculations and problem solving, you really just have to follow your eye. I mean at certain times in life, your eye must have caught things that appealed to your eyes, or that you found particularly beautiful, whether it be a girl, a boy, or an empty swingset. You're not in any way wrong or bad for feeling how you feel, the whole basis of art is perspective. You just seem to take things to a more logical black and white perspective, while everyone will have their own, most likely different one. Its just something you have to keep your eye out for.

well i mean i understand seeing something you want to remember and taking a picture, i guess what i don't understand is someone taking a picture and thinking the picture is beautiful because they took it. if i take a picture of something i think the picture is beautiful because the subject is beautiful, not because i took a good picture. is this really confusing? haha.

Well now we're stepping on the toes of how one can decide what is and what is not art. Very debatable, and also very personal. Personally for me, composition of a frame is what makes the photograph. That frame doesn't even have to be the physical edge of the image, but could very well be the frame of the objects inside the shot, natural framing if you will. Just allows for my eye to really catch hold of what the photographer is really looking at, and helps guide me to what part of the image they found intriguing.

Again, interpretation of a photo is completely up to you, but that's one thing I tend to look for.
