There's this girl in my art class who keeps on staring at me. She even stares at me when I'm in the hallway. I asked this on yahoo answers(they don't know my gender there) and they said that she probably likes me. She could like me, but it's unlikely because most girls are straight. Is there any other reason why someone would stare at me?
Lets say 5% of girls are gay. More may be multisexual, there is less research lets say another 5%. This would only be an implausible explanation if more than 10% of girls stared at you. Us queers aren't that rare. If you're interested, see if you can figure things out. Is she staring in a flirty way? What does she do when you smile back? Does she ever check out other girls? Also, apparently sexual attraction causing pupils to dilate, but that might be too difficult to tell.
If most of them are straight it doesn't mean that she is. You don't have to hit on her just try to talk with her. Be nice, look into her eyes, smile, be polite. It's not a crime to be nice to someone. You could smile when he looks at you too and see what she does then.
