So I am using wifi at Arbys and I wanted to use this site. It is blocked for reasons of it being about sexual orientation. Okay. Hold up! What the actual fuck? Really, @ssholes? How am I getting to this website right now? By way of proxies.
That's really stupid. At least there are proxies that you can use to gain access here though. I guess thst shows how effective their filters are..lol.
Really? I've accessed this site from an Arby's before. Granted it's been awhile since I've done so and this was also done on my phone. SO it may or may not be Arby's as a whole and it may just be that specific Arby's or something like that. I dunno, and tbh the Arby's wifi isn't that great anyways
I recommend never buying from them, and borrowing their wifi whenever possible. Never actually heard of this place, but meh, they sound homophobic.
Arbys restaurants, like most fast food chains, are operated by franchises. Each franchise would be able to get their own wifi systems in place. I've had the same problem with Subway restaurants around here. I suspect it's more to do with the beliefs of the owner(s) of the franchise. Also, the software that powers these wifi hotspots typically has a handful of categories of websites where you can just check what ones you want to allow access to. These are the same content filtering systems that schools and businesses can use to control what their students and employees can and can't access. (Most employers frown on things like porn, and even some will restrict games or sites that could be time wasters) If you don't know what you are doing when setting these up, or don't understand the categories, it's very easy to misconfigure the filter to block more agressively than you would think.
I'm guessing schools are smarter around blocking things? They should block proxies then ow.:icon_sad:
You should report that to some news media, like HuffPost. That's pretty crazy, even if it is just a single franchise owner's decision. ---------- Post added 26th Apr 2014 at 12:56 PM ---------- It looks like this is not uncommon: https://www.google.com/search?q=wif...7.5774j0j1&sourceid=chrome&es_sm=119&ie=UTF-8
My school was so strict that they even blocked Yahoo mail, and qwest (now centurylink) mail. The only way I was allowed to get E-mail was through G-mail, They even blocked a program that I needed for a class Nyu~ Really though, I understand blocking inappropriate websites, and time-wasters but blocking everything is just going too far Nyu~
Yeah, I figure it has to do with the owner of that specific KFC. It really pisses me off that they would use that reason to block websites
Funny thing, but I encountered a mighty odd filter either. I was at a local library, and needed to use one of the Internet terminals. I had a few minutes to kill, and so I tried "filtered" access, wondering what happens these days. I was interested to discover the filters apparently do NOTHING when using Google Chrome. When using Internet Exploder, I was able to access all trial sites--including EC and the personals of craigslist. The only site that got blocked was a forum for audio equipment enthusiasts... So a teenage boy is spared the horror of learning what sort of decent speakers he can get, but can find plenty of ads looking for relationships that include naked photos.
:roflmao: That's funny because I work at an Arby's, and I hate my job. Here's more shit to throw on the shitpile of shit.
