I've gotten to a point that I'm wondering if I should pick a genderneutral name. I'm starting to think that maybe it might be a good idea. I mean I go by "Jess" which is a shortened version of my name that can be considered genderneutral but I'm not sure it's genderneutral enough for me if you know what I mean. I just am not really sure what I want to do. I'm not out to many people as agender and I feel like people won't fully accept me anyway, but I kind of want to look into some genderneutral names. If I ever do get the courage to come out as agender, I want to have a name I can go by. I'm not sure what would fit me though. Some names I like: Jericho Kale Nico Is there anything better you all can think of? What do you think of the names I picked? ---------- Post added 30th Apr 2014 at 03:59 AM ---------- I hope I put this in the right thread. I wasn't really sure where exactly to put it.
I've seen some guys who have the name Jess. But I don't think it's used often enough for guys to make it gender neutral. I can't help but think of the leafy green when I hear the name "Kale" haha. It sounds more gender neutral than the other two names though. Nico and Jericho sound like names for guys. Blake, Alex, Harper, Taylor, and Pat are some other names that come to mind.
How about a word instead of a name? I'm really bad at thinking stuff like that up, so for a while on one forum my user name was 'Ambivalence' because i couldn't make my mind up.
I looked at your photos and you look more like a Kale than a Jericho or Nico, so thats why I voted for Kale.
I just want to point out that Nico in Spanish is an abbreviation for Nicolás (Nicholas in English), so it sounds absolutely maleish for any Spanish-speaker.
Nico is cute. IMO, Jess is a feminine name, no wiggle room. "Jesse" on the other hand, could easily go either way.
Hm...I'm having trouble deciding. Right now I'm between Kale and Caiden. I'm hoping to get an idea that sticks out to me. Something that just makes me go "that's it!" But nothing :/ ---------- Post added 1st May 2014 at 02:52 PM ---------- Thank you everyone for your suggestions so far.
My vote is Kayden. According to Behind the Name, Caiden is usually male and Kayden is both. I don't think it would come across as to female because it's more popular for boys actually. I think either spelling is gender-neutral and rare enough that there wouldn't be a strong association with either gender. And Kale I just think of the vegetable
What's wrong with Jesse? It's about as gender neutral as you can get, without boy-girl variation versions (Carl-Carla, Robert-Roberta, Sam-Samantha, etc).
I don't know if it's a local thing but around here it sure as heck isn't gender neutral. If you call someone a Jesse, you are calling them a girl. Sometimes it's spelt 'Jessie' but since the pronunciation is identical it really doesn't matter...'You big Jesse' means 'Stop acting like such a girl'
Kale is a pretty fantastic green, especially with hot sauce. I like it, but my personal impression of it is somewhat masculine.
