My son has aspergers. We've known for awhile. It's not too bad but it is a challenge. I can answer questions if you have them.
Pretty noticeable as in? How come it hasn't been noticed before then? My neighbour has severe autism and it's very noticeable in the way he moves and talks. Who told you about your autism?
Hey, don't be scared or ashamed - It's going to be okay and we all still love you, autism doesn't define you! My 14 year old brother has autism - He still can't talk yet - But he IS improving and is going to speech therapy now. He can understand basic things (he can eat properly and can do what he is told to do, and is getting better with being out in public and stuff), but he doesn't understand very deep or emotional things - Like he has no clue about wars going on or LGBT discrimination or anything like that - But he is still my brother, he means a lot to me; Even more than my dad... He may not understand, but I could always talk to him without him judging or anything. And again, he is getting better and he is still a very happy kid. So please, do not stress!! You probably have a higher autism than my brother and there is always people you can go to for help! And again, we still love you, please stay strong, okay?? (*hug*)
There's a very wide spectrum when it comes to autism. Some people who are high-functioning autistics (like Aspies) are just like everybody else, they just have some odd quirks and social awkwardness but often are brilliant in some areas. Then there are low-functioning autistics who basically are unable to function as normal members of society and need pretty much 24/7 supervision and care. Many are incapable of communication, unable to read or speak or understand what people say to them, some will only scream and flap their hands, many are even incontinent, unable to control their bladders and bowel movements. They live in their own sad little worlds and no matter their age need to be taken care of like children. Is it high-functioning autism (formerly and still popularly known as Asperger's)? Or is it a more severe, lower-functioning form of autism? When I was a young teen I was taken to a psychologist and diagnosed as "borderline" Aspie. To this day I don't know for sure whether I have Aspergers or fall anywhere on the autism spectrum. But saying "I have autism" is kinda a vague statement since the autism spectrum is so broad.
Yeah, it's just part of who you are. And you aren't a different person than who you were before you found out.
