I like it. I like it's origins. It has a cooler story that the word "gay". Though I usually use the word gay anyway. It seems more casual to me.
Gotta agree with the OP here. I don't feel very comfortable using lesbian. I tend to refer to myself as gay or queer. It's easier and faster than explaining my exact orientation, and I feel it's closer to the mark than lesbian and bisexual.
Yeah, "lesbian" has always had the same connotation as barbarian to me. I think thats the way its portrayed in hetero-normative circles. I also dont like it. Feels dirty somehow.
I don't like the word "pigeon-toed"...it make it sound like you have birds on your feet. I don't like the word "hashpipe"...it makes it sound like you're smoking your breakfast. I don't like the word "frazzled"...it doesn't sound like legitimate stress. I don't like the word "haggis", even though I love haggis itself. The word just doesn't appeal to me...it sounds gross and is probably responsible for the bad reputation haggis gets generally in the US.
I don't like it either much. But I use it because that IS the word for a homosexual female, and my feelings about the word don't change its meaning. Plus it isn't the only word I don't like. I don't like quite a lot of words but I can't avoid using them sometimes!
I'm fine with it, I just think It's weird to separate terms when it comes to homosexuality between the two sexes.
