Canada is a country with three coastlines; the Atlantic, the Pacific, and the Arctic oceans. Most people in Canada for some reason though, just say "From Coast to Coast." I have been told by some people that saying "From Coast to Coast to Coast" is politically correct. I don't get how it would be politically correct... we have three coastlines... it's just a fact. The only thing I can think of is that on the Arctic ocean it's mostly first nations people who live there. So I am being PC by acknowledging that they exist? What do you guys think?
So my question would be: 1) Do you think I am being politically correct? or 2) Why would other people think I'm being politically correct?
Hm. imo, from coast to coast sounds more aesthetic/pleasing than coast to coast to coast, you know? I dont think you're being politically correct, just technically correct
I agree it's more technically correct than politically correct. As I see it, coast to coast is an expression.
I think the phrase "coast to coast" just refers to the expanse of the nation, from one side to the other. In the US, we also have a third "coastline," the Gulf of Mexico; not an ocean, but also not an insignificant body of water (cough cough Great Lakes :lol. When people in Texas, Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi say "we're going to the coast," it doesn't usually refer to the Atlantic or Pacific. But anyways, I think those who want you to say "coast to coast to coast" might be a little too sensitive; unless they are First Nation people themselves, I wouldn't care for their opinion.
