So I was thinking about my time in school. I went to a Catholic school in England and we had the Catholic form of sex ed, so we were told that sex is something that a man and a wife does, we were asked if we wanted to do abstinence pledges and it was just a waste of time.

I remember this quote from the teacher - "If sex was meant to be fun, your genitals would be shaped like a playstations, they are a tool to make a new baby nothing more"

You could always point out that the penis is remarkably similar to a joystick used as computer input...

Yep. I would have pointed out that for at least a decade, the Joystick was the main video game controller, in arcades and at home.

Sex Ed: All we got were these horrible films about all the diseases you could catch, and people covered in oozing sores, and really, no explanation at all.

I recall when I was perhaps 12 thinking you might even get a disease from masturbating, and I was really worried, and eventually, asked our school librarian, of all things, who was rumored to be a lesbian.

So the degree of misinformation was and still is bad; I think most US states have no requirement to teach it at all, and many teach zany, abstinence only things. This is one thing conservatives are always against: better sex education, and it's not just a gay issue.

Yeah mine was kinda like this... 'cept one of the really old gym teachers taught the class. He just showed us useless videos and didn't really talk too much, and when he did talk you couldn't understand him because of his awful slur in his voice.

    Basically they told us,

"This is what a boy has and this is what a girl has. This is what happens when they put them together."

Then while demonstrating contraceptives, we were spared the banana activity, but we did watch a video narrated by a fiftysomething year old woman informing me that

"While some men don't like to use condoms because they lose sensation, it does make you last longer."

    Lol.

My sex ed wasn't that bad, we just got the "scare you out of pre-marital sex talk".

    But dang.

Your teacher is wildly unethical and unqualified to teach that class.

We never had a sex education class :/ I learned about sex from a random science encyclopaedia. The first thing we had which was remotely connected to anything like that was 7th grade biology where we had a list of all the organs as a part of the reproductive system. Nothing about them though. Just the names. Then in 10th we had the reproductive system in detail, and that was it. They had sex education in the home science class, but that was an optional subject, which only started from the 9th grade, and I didn't take it. And apparently even that was really brief.

In 6th our teacher gave us a talk about periods and growing hair and things (it was a girls' school) but nothing else, ever. Outside of this, and these silly biology lessons, we had absolutely nothing.

Sex ed is crap. It's never as helpful as I hope. One thing I hate is how every time I took sex ed, everybody already knew the useful stuff. The rest was useless science words nobody would remember after the test, if there was one.

Sex ed for me was all gestating babies and nasty close-ups of diseases. I never got any information on the vagina or penis, menstruation, or how actual sex works. Just babies and STD photos. And the occasional mention of condoms. And one day in high school with a few activities. Okay, two. One with cups of stuff that turned pink at the end. Nobody would exchange fluids with me. The other was one where two people randomly hold up two cards with body parts and you have to guess if you can get aids from the act.

I sadly ate it up, I did the pledge and everything. In England Faith Schools can set their own PSHE and Religion curriculum so we were given the Catholic version ..

Mine was pretty good actually. We actually talked about gay sex and they said were not saying to have sex, but if you do just use protection.
