Is it just me, or are LGTBT people smarter on average than the regular population? Especially with gay guys. Almost all of the gay guys that I know do well in school. Maybe it's just a coincidence, but those are just my observations. What say you, EC community?

    Not necessarily.

Maybe more open minded which is a sign of wisdom. But in terms of academics and degrees not necessarily.

I mean I personally have two masters degrees but to say that someone who is cis hetero is on average less intelligent is a fallacy and I'm not sure where that even came from.

I say we shouldn't elevate ourselves above others.

There are all levels of intellect among LGTB people, same as ALL of humanity.
Also, that was a very interesting read Olides, thanks.

I think there's a wide range of intelligence among LGBT people. Also, I would caution against viewing academic achievement as a reliable measurement of one's intelligence, as other factors like work-ethic and focus play huge roles. To put it another way, one can be a great student without first rate intelligence, but nobody, regardless of their intelligence, can be a great student without first rate work-ethic, unless they resort to cheating.

Getting back to your question, historically speaking, it appears there may be something there regarding great geniuses...

No, I don't think intelligence has any correlation with sexual orientation.

Nope. I don't think there is any relation between intelligence and sexual orientation.

    Happy days

I have noticed any difference in intelligence between that of people with different sexualities.

Nah, I don't think generalisations like that are very truthful.

And besides, you can't even measure intelligence so any potential massive world wide study would never be able to be conducted.

I've not seen any studies that indicate higher intelligence on the part of LGBT people. However, Jonathan Haidt's research on brain structures indicate a difference in cognitive processing and thought processes that arise in brain structure difference between liberal and conservative people.

It isn't that conservative people are inherently less intelligent, but their brains are wired to have difficulty with change and progress; Haidt argues that it is an evolutionary necessity that helps keep societal decision making in balance.

I do think that as a group, you're more likely to find a high percentage of liberal-minded people among LGBT populations, in part because it requires liberal thought to be self-accepting. So LGBT people are probably more likely to have the liberal-wired brains. Whether there are actual, measurable differences between the more conservative brain types and the more liberal brain types in things like critical thinking skills and pattern recognition that are associated with intelligence... I don't know. But I have a suspicion that might be the case.

I don't buy that one. Political preferences are not hard wired in the brain. It's like religion. We choose to believe what we believe and we can change those beliefs at any time.

I would be tempted to be skeptical about this as well.

I do think though that "out" LGBT+ people are better at self evaluating.

I'm fairly intelligent (not trying to sound arrogant), but I know a lot of... Not-so-smart gay guys.

It depends on what you mean by smart. I mean I am doing a PhD at 23 but I don't think I am really that smart to be honest.

I wonder if its people like Alan Turing who was a genius that makes people think that way
