This is too awesome not to post (especially since I remember what it was like 40 years ago)!

Maybe people'll start hating on eye color in addition to the gender, race, and orientation stuff. I mean its as stupid as the other types of discrimination.

Except that race issues like that aren't gone. They're just more subtle, pervasive, and harder to deal with.

I feel that that will happen to LGBT rights, too.

Tbh I don't think any discrimination issues will ever truly just go. Even the oldest ones like sexism and racism are still held by a disturbingly large portion of society. It sucks.

I reckon trans rights and acceptance will be the next thing the far right will want to wage war about, if they're not doing it already.

I agree. Gender isn't even really in the limelight yet - it's only a war waged on a micro/meso scale. Once it is waged on the macro scale (society) you can damn well bet that they'll be pictures like this, with idiots waving flags withs idiotic picket signs that read, oh, I don't know...

    "TWO GENDERS, NO MORE!"

Or maybe even something more hilarious.

What's going to be REALLY HILARIOUS about gender identity is this. Republicans, to a fault, are libertarian and want government to stay the hell out of the public's personal lives, and not to micro-manage themselves. It'll be hilarious when they're going to insist (hypocritically) that government step in and make policies regulating a person's choices on identity, and then still turn around and want then to keep out of other avenues, like their business interests and who they tax or who they hire.

Yeah, of course racism is still a problem in America, but we're long past the stage where lots of people are against inter racial relationships (we are aren't we, America?) just like I'm pretty sure in 40 years we'll be long past the point where lots of people are against same sex marriage.

But yes, I predict that racism and homophobia will still exist in another 40 years, unfortunately.

Yep. People have so far ignored trans issues, and it has a lot further to go.

Actually, it will be very interesting to see what happens because it's a lot harder to tell someone's sexuality versus their race.

Gay discrimination is so difficult in comparison to racial discrimination, but there will always be rednecks up for the challenge, and Conservative Republicans to represent their prejudices in Congress. :eusa_doh:

I think they'll still exist in 40 years, especially in certain places: more rural areas, and the south/central midwest( Kansas, Nebraska, &c). I think this will be in good part due to that odd collusion of the religious right, 'tea party' extremist sorts, and that certain brand or racism/homophobia that has long been an underlying, sometimes hidden, narrative of social conservatives in the US.

I think it will less visible, but it will still be a problem that many people have to face, even as racism and religious intolerance/infighting still are today.

I don't even think it'll take 40 years, I believe we're pretty close to the end of discrimination in Some places. However, there are people/places that force me to believe that It will never truly go away.

LOL! Religious right "Tea Party". Someone's brainwashed... The Tea Party has NOTHING to do with social issues. In fact, quite a few Tea Partiers that I know are pro gay rights. It's the odd few Tea Partiers with big names (ex. Michele Bachmann) that also happen to be social conservatives and who voice their opinions on social issues very loudly.
