Hey, evvies! Yesterday, I went to Long Beach Pride, my first ever time ever. (!) Sooo much fun! I didn't see the parade, but I went in the festival part, and that was a lot of fun. I bought crap, I shoulda bought a t-shirt, and danced in this clubby type area with a girl I ended up macking on! (!!) I did get burned, even though I put sunscreen on, because I suck at sunscreen, ow. The worst part is I'm burned behind the knees, so it hurts to walk a bit. And yeah, I know there's no point to this thread, but I'm happy as a thing that's happy. I even got to stand around outside with my church and promote the church. I was briefly on necklace duty, passing out rainbow cross necklaces, and I feel bad about ditching so early to go in and look about. But I figure it's not too terrible since I've never been. And I plan on sticking to bracelet duty next year, so what the hell.
I've always wanted to go to a pride parade but I suppose I've just never gotten round to looking them up. It's funny because about 60% of my friends are apart of the LGBT community so it would probably be totally awesome. No chance of getting sunburn here in England though .
Congrats. I've been invited by friends to attend this year, also my first time, and am considering staying behind to clean up. Not too excited about standing around in 95 degree weather, but hey!
Go to Birmingham Pride! It's this weekend, right? :icon_bigg I've never been to a pride event, but when I'm fully out I might. My sisters go to Birmingham Pride every year with their friends (none of them are LGBT but they love it).
They seem great! I mean, I'm not like many of the people that go to pride events, but they seem like a lot of fun!
Yeah I'm kind of laid back and shy, but I know I'd let go and have a great time! Ah I wanna go!
You went to the human equivalent of a cattle market. Well done. Sorry just jesting, I've just found out I'm in London when it's own. My hotel even overlooks it. Couldn't believe it
I would love to take the kiddo to a pride parade. I just did a search to try to find a local one but... ggrrr ...out in the boonies where the loonies keep pride bashed and force LGBTQ firmly into closets. The closest I can find are over 3 1/2 hours away. Sucks so much.
Surely here on a support forum, it's always relevant to rejoice in our happiness at sharing solidarity with other queer people at a rally. There's definitely a point to the thread.
There was a time when LA and Long Beach pride were fun. I've even been to San Fran a number of times. Oddly though they seemed to end up being commercialized events and less about the community. I haven't gone in more than a few years. Perhaps I am just getting jaded in my old age and simply need to go and have fun. Posts like the OP posted about going their first time certainly sparks that child-like interest in me again. So thank you PurpleGrey...
I went to my first pride a 4 years ago in June (just the festival part) and quite enjoyed it Also I felt like I actually fit in there which was a pretty amazing feeling in itself (plus I felt a sorta happyness feeling about having went for the next few days afterward too) I actually look forward to going each time. If I go to that one again this year it'll make 4 years in a row. There's a 2nd smaller pride that I've been to in the fall a couple times too.
