So I'm wondering... with the wide range in age amongst the members here...
What is the youngest-oldest you would have a meaningful relationship with?

I wouldn't date anyone younger than me, guys or girls. Unless they were only a year. Girls I would go maybe up to 2 years older than me. Guys I'd say the maximum 5 years.

For me, the youngest would be 18, and the oldest, I think would be around 35. There are exceptions I will make for some people who are over 35.

If they're younger than me, 1 or 2 years. If they're older, max, at my current age, would be 40 years old, not older

I'm still young, so range is very small....even so, when I get older I probably wouldn't go more than 3 or 4 years either way.

I that it is really different when you are still in school, so if you were to ask me this question again when I was done paying off student loans then 3-4 wouldn't seem like such an age difference. Right now though, 4 years younger means a freshman in high school would qualify and I, 1) legally couldn't do that in VA 2) don't think that maturity-wise we are in the same place 3) they are going to be dealing with high school and living at home for 3 more years and I am leaving for my first year on my own next year, so we are in very different places in our lives

Because of all this I could probably only date someone 1-2 years within my age right now, but that's very much subject to change.

I would say that I would date a two years younger and 10 years older than my age. Of course there are some exceptions for people who's age my surpass the 10 years range by a year or so.

Well, I usually consider the formula to be appropriate: where n=age, don't date below the age of (n/2)+7, which can be rearranged to find the upper age.

But I'd date older if I had particularly strong feelings.

Well.... I was 22 dating a 16-year-old. We're 6 years apart, and I would consider going younger, but I don't think I could date anyone more than a couple years older than I am.

I always said five years plus until I met my boyfriend who is six years older than me. I'd never date any one younger though!

Two years younger and four years older at the most. My range will probably expand a lot when I'm older because I don't really care about age.

    Wow!! Lots of responses!! :wow:

So being that I've not listed my preference.. here it goes

I prefer younger, guys or girls (99.9% guys). And the age is not a factor to me. The only requirement is their maturity level. I've met a guy (19) that has the maturity that most 30ish guys could only hope for... and I've met some guys and girls 40ish that act like freaking baboons!

The older range?? Na, I will not even consider anyone older than me.

I think 23 would be the cut-off point for me - beyond that, the age gap becomes more apparent, and is further accentuated by the fact that most people will have finished their studies by that point, so will be in the career stage of their life (whereas I am nowhere near that).

Youngest would be 16, but I would much rather date someone older than me.

I wouldn't set a barrier, if someone is worth it and the love is real, I'd pull out all the stops to make it work.

Age gap relationships can be more significant when you are quite young, but as time goes on it becomes less of an issue. There is only one year between my partner and I, but I have been in a relationship with a guy ten years older and age was not the issue for us parting.
